Not fast enough El Pollo...I saw the post where you labelled me "Moose" before you hit the "edit" button...:)

It was an honest mistake...I was watching the Entire First Season DVD Set Of Rocky & Bullwinkle...When I saw Preston post "Honker", I realized my error... ;)

   PRESTON?????   ...Oh Lord...Now I've got multiple personalities as well as all my other problems...

Trax was probably watching "The Music Man" starring Robert Preston and not "Newhart". :D

Was that the comedy where Robert Preston plays a gay entertainer??? When somebody asked him if he'd been in the Army, he replied "Occasionally"... :D

Trax, I know that look..."okay, so called Master of the House...where's my ^^$#@ dinner"? Yep, I know it well, starts about an hour before it's really time and that is the look if I run late:rolleyes:. Preston

:D :D ...Hey "Honker"...that knife should end up lookin' like new. Not nearly as bad as I had envisioned...I was seein' gouges and deep gnarly scratches...  :p
So this dude that has two brothers named "Larry" has me sanding this "dull" 112NS down. Various types of sandpaper. Couldn't find 1500 so I'm down to 600 and then some double-knot ("00") steel wool.

Had a really poopy (this is a family forum) day at work. Doing the wax-on wax-off moves. Kine Zen like. Smiling ear to ear. Relaxing. I must be getting old.

Grasshoppah. (Goose.)

:D :D ...Well Gooser...did ya end up with the big smile I was talkin' about??...LOL...If not...send 'er to me and I'll bring that smile to yer "beak"...:p :D

OO  I would have thought OOOO ??

  ...don't ferget that 2000 I mentioned before ya hit it with the buffer there goose...:D  ...stay away from that steel wool tho...lotsa swirlies...

Yep DarrylS...big 'ol smile! Thanks!
Just came back from Home Depot and they don't have anything finer that the 600 I already got :( And, remember, I don't have a buffer...we broke up. ;)
That is why I am using the steel wool.

Hey, Larry! I was thinking that 0000 steel wool would be about the same as me using metal polish  Yes? No? Maybe so?

One thing I can't figure is the wood masking. If I tape it close to the bolster then I can't get all the metal. If I move it back from the bolster, than I hit wood.
?????????

   ...Great news goose...I knew you'd have a winner with a little "elbow grease"...That makes me happy...:) :) :)

I haven't been here a lot lately and didn't back up through this thread to see what it is you are grinding on. But you might try the 0000 to get out moderate to light scratches, Get it smooth and then use some of the polishes. Brasso worked for me after I smoothed out an Albertsons logo on a bolster.

Like Darryl says... elbow grease...

I do have a trick when I am using brasso. Easier on the fingers.
I have a 1x2" board that is nice and flat. Fold one of those yellow soft shop cloths over the end of it real tight and a small bit of brasso. Work the knife on the Brasso, instead of beating on your fingers. Naturally works best on the old square bolsters.

 ...Good to see ya back "rodent"...I was startin' to miss your input to the group. Hope things are okay and that you've just been busy. That "tip" you suggested is just what I do as well. It's always worked great...:)

I find it amazing that a lot of us come up with some of the same things. Always looking for a better way....

Just been doing a lot of roundtuits around this place. But I been peeking in every once in a while.

Biggest news!!! I may have broken the addiction after buying a huge abount of knives the last month or so. Haven't bought one in over a week, and not even any bids for any on the bay... But some of Joe's look tempting....

Cool beans Mickey Rat...I will get some of the 0000 just for grins. And the board gig too. I used to use a popsicle stick on with the Brasso cloth on the end...your way seems better. So easy, a caveman can do it :)

What's going on here, aside from looking at Trax's pup doing one of those glamour poses your girl gets ya for Valentine's, is this: I got a 112NS that the dude peddled as "new". It was obvious that the bolsters were sanded and BTW, the blade too.

So Darryl sent me some "Hints From Heloise" to work the bolsters back to the "mirror" finish I have on an identical 112NS. Been working it a bit after work today, between posts here, and "Survivor" reruns on cable.

Hope all is well...was wondering where you've been. Now I'm wondeirng about a Search & Rescue for "Five-0 Mike".

I seee....... Just looked at your pics. Agree with Darryl, That doesn't look too bad.

Another tip on the sanding, I simply use a rubber sanding block with whatever grit... but I am sure you have probably figured that out. Wife asked me why this one is laying here on the desk. :D

I have one of those that fall on the roundtuit list. Is lightly engraved on all 4 bolsters with one of those cheap etchers. So if any of you know Ray Mullins, tell him I am going to be sanding his name out of the bolsters on his no dot 2 scale pin 110.
I gotta take pics this time. I get one cleaned up and it looks like all the rest. Can't remember which one it was before.

Will be interesting to see how your NS turns out. I haven't played with restoring one of those as yet.
