110 with a lanyard hole (too much to ask)

Would a lanyard hole be possible on a buck 110 maybe from the custom shop jut below where the blade meets the back bolster possibly? Big advocate of lanyard use.

As a younger young man I thought they were dumb but have found the utility of them when working where you might drop a knife and lose it. So I kind of wish it were an option.

It's been done aftermarket by some, but when I asked Buck a few years ago about having it done at Buck, the word was "No, it runs a high risk of messing up the knife".

Personally, I like the idea of a lanyard hole or a bail on a knife. It gives the option of a lanyard when warrented and removal when it isn't. There have been times when, if'n I dropped my knife, it was gone, a loooong way down.

Frank, I find it very useful as well. I won't hardly field dress a deer w/o one. DM:thumbup:

There's just not much room for one, anything you put in would have to be pretty small.

If you could replace the steel spring holder with another having a tab extending out the rear of the bolster, you could put a lanyard hole through the tab instead.

Blue Sky,,, X-L-Ent picture, definately worth a thousand words. After viewing it, I see the problem clearly.

I think they could machine a loop onto the end. Wouldn't be as clean as a hole, but could be done.

I've thought about risking it and drilling a hole through the brass bolster at a 45 degree angle near the end.

I'm sure it could be done, just not sure it can be done by me;)

Looked at the pic posted above (thanks, very helpful).

Now, I'm convinced that they need to do a "tactical version" with a point out the rear for skull-crushing :-) Best part, is they could then put a lanyard hole in the crusher point for me.

Ok, I've been biting my tongue reading this thread but after reading Ohen's post, I need to chime in.
There actually is a prototype of the very thing described in the posts above. What the engineers did was made a spring holder that extended out the back of the knife with a hole in it for a lanyard. I saw the proto and although I am not an expert on skull crushing, I can say with certainty that I would not like that thing coming down on my melon!
Unfortunately, the proto never became a project. :(

Be VERY careful if you plan on drilling holes in the rear bolsters. That Demo 110 picture, ( thank you blue sky ) illustrates the lack of room for error in the placement of a hole.
A bail ring might be an option because you would not have to drill a hole all the way through either bolster. The problem occures when a hole goes all the way through and messes with the integrity of the spring or the spring holder.

What a shame...a skull crusher/spring holder with lanyard loop...is a grand idea...and the butt end of a 110 is gonna leave you w/ a headache, regardless :)

There is a 110 complete with "skullcrusher" on slee-bay!

Don Seals put one together and has it there. I have nothing to do with it, just though others may want to know.

LOL..the Skullcrusher is made out of DM material. OC it's made to your spec's;)

You all need to go Dave's "Rubber Bucky" thread and get added to the pass around list for this knife as Dave has drilled a lanyard hole in the rear bolster of that knife. Or perhaps Dave can post a photo of that knife whenever he gets it back.

I didnt even remember that the rubber bucky had a lanyard hole.
Thanks for the reminder.
Here is the post with pictures:
well it is midnight and i looked and gee wizz the camera batteries had charged!
so was able to pull off the picts i had and take new ones..

of course it is signed and marked 'rubber bucky'
the real reason for this shot is ...
take note of the thickness of the brass on either
side of the rocker bar.. one side is much thicker!
on checking i have not seen this on others i have yet.
this hints at that they come from two different batches of stock!
any one else noticed any thing like this?

old and new side by side and Jacks sheath
you can see were the blade is short and clip is brought down,
to me it has a little bit of 'fighter' look
(i am still thinking this sheath is a keeper after the field testing)

close up of alpha rubber grips

how i got the blade looking

some of that old time "Glue" that buck used and how it hangs in there
some other thread there was much discusson on the thickness
of were it joined to the bolsters this shows how thick it is
and it is color gray green not dark like the wood
so it is the buffing that blends it in not its color

were it would not let go the wood or brass! dayum tough stuff!
