Thought you'd all get a kick out of this. A couple of weeks ago my granddaughter was down at the river (N. Umpqua) checking her crawdad pot and taking a swim. She saw something shiny under the water, turns out it was the blade of a 110 sticking out from under a rock. She dug it out and brought it up to the house. I'm guessing a fisherman, probably floating downriver in his drift boat, lost his knife.

That is a very cool story Mike, I wonder how many years it was in the river?

Very cool find and great story. How old is grand daughter? I think if it was me I'd keep it as it is for a great story and buy her a new 110.But that's just me.

Second thoughts maybe see if they would clean it up for her. If she has crawdad traps she checks she deserve a good knife.

I wonder how long it would take for those pebbles to get stuck in there? And I'd say send it in for a tune up. Then give her a special knife that is all hers, and has a Grandpa story to it. Who knows, that knife may have seen Grizzlies fishing for salmon. Or gold miners panning for gold. Or Settlers traveling the Oregon Trail...

Well the C dates it a 1995 so it could have been in the water close to 18 years, and judging fron the look of it, it's been there a long time. For the finifh to come off and the wood to seperate that would take awhile.

Great story, and a lucky find. I only find nightcrawler tubs & beer cans.
I actually do like the color of the inlays. Perhaps we could convince Joe to throw some inlays into Lake Coeur D Alene near Post Falls, then produce an L.E. 110 with "Bog Inlays":D

Very cool story! It would be great to see this one get cleaned up and given a new life:thumbup: pebbles can work their way in and lodge pretty tight though...if you do decide to send it in, it may be a good idea to get a hold of Joe and convey the back story, and that the knife has sentimental value, in case they decide to replace it. Congrats to your Granddaughter for finding that one!

She's eleven. I told her I'd fix the knife up for her and return it. I'll probably have time this fall or winter when the weather turns. Maybe I'll put some girly scales on it... Mike

To be honest if you have the know how ,that will make it even more special.

I don't know what I would do. Maybe contact Joe Houser to see if he would like to put in the Buck Factory museum with her name and story on the ID card. And send her a special 110 or other knife of choice in return.... Would be great for her to go visit and see it sometime in future.....300

^^^ That would be cool.

What's going on with the bolster in this photo? It looks like "plating" that is chipping off the top, but we all know it's solid brass.

I was thinking that chip was kinda weird too. I flicked off the loose flake and took another photo... it looks like I could chip off more.
