112 Slim Select initial impressions

I bought one of these at Cabelas a few years back at a really good price. It's a pretty good little pocket knife for the price of admission. I have it clipped in a spot in my kitchen as a "go to" knife for opening packages and other tasks I wouldn't use a kitchen knife for. It's also the one I'll throw in my wife's purse to have when we go camping, or helping friends and family move, etc.

The one I have is easy to open, locks up tight and I have no complaints on the grind. I don't think it's ever been sharpened, but it still cuts good. I also prefer this blade shape over the original.20210303_000126_copy_2268x3024.jpg

I've wanted one for a long time but just don't care for thumb studs, so I was glad when they came out with this version. Heck, the original 112 was designed to be pinched open anyway! I also removed the pocket clip since I prefer to carry in a slip.

If you don't like thumb studs or pocket clips, an Opinel #6,7 or 8 could be your next knife. Different steel and blade geometry than the Buck and a heck of a slicer. BTW how is the blade centering on your 112? Thanks Bro.

I'm a nail notch kind of guy, and don't care for the clips, so I take them off. It just slips right down to the bottom of my pocket.

If you're into nail notches but not clips, you'd love an Opinel 6,7 or 8. Different steel and blade geometry and a super slicer. BTW how's the blade centering on your Buck 112? Thanks Bro.

The centering on my 112 is nearly perfect. It might be 1/64" off to one side, but it takes a bit if close examination to see it.

Yes! I didn't think I would like the Opinel but I finally broke down and bought a #6 "carbone". Wow, really like it and carry it around the house all the time. Indeed, it is a great slicer. I put a nice patina on it. My 112 Slim Select has very good centering.

glad you got one with nice centering since the knife is pinned and therefore not adjustable.
My 112 SS is poorly centered and as far as I know there's nothing that can be done to improve it.

You can try peening the pins tighter, but I don't think it is worth it.
These entry level Bucks are meant to be users, not beauty queens. If blade centering is so important, you should have gone with the Rat 2 with screw construction.

Actually if you want to offload the 112, I will trade you a Cold Steel Range Boss, like new.

Actually I did wind up going with The RAT 2. Cabela's has a good exchange policy.
I have a Buck 55 which is my primary gentleman's knife. Perfect centering and flawless performance, fit and finish. I dare say a beauty queen.

Hey. I found a place that has 110 and 112 Select hard to find colors. PM me, because I think we aren't supposed to put link here.

They are the nail nick kind. I bought two complete 112 sets (8 colors)

HH,
Trying to message you for info, but says my conversation limit has been reached, and I can't seem to delete them...

Ok. It is Cherry Cutlery with obvious address.
Hope it's OK to say this here... If that's the place in Michigan, I bought from him once. Good and honest service. When the package arrived it had about $3.50 postage due on it. I emailed and politely suggested perhaps a mistake on his end. He responded right back, yes, it was a goof and the wrong mailing label got printed (wrong class and rate). Refunded me $4.

I think I could use another nail nick slim select or two... :D

I bought stuff from him on the internet and, when I realized he was only about 60 miles away (Lincoln Park, MI), I have visited him a couple times. No problems and decent price. He has mostly Buck and Case knives, which are the primary 2 brands I collect. There are not alot of walk-in stores around here that offer a decent amount of Buck and Case knives for sale.

Thanks HH. I was hoping to find a light blue, teal, or purple...no such luck.
no, those were released by Buck directly, I think. Not available to dealers. If he had those, I would have bought them all. :) He has the standard 8 colors shown in the Buck catalog, which is a miracle in itself, as some of the colors are hard to find at a good price.
