112 square bolster

quoting Mr. Oden (differentiating forged from sintered frames can be done by looking at the inside of the frame) "If you see striations inside the frame, it is forged. If there is a smooth "milky" look, you have a sintered brass frame"

Hey Matthew, Mr. Oden was dead on with his description of what to look for inside the frame. On top is my 1977 110 with a smooth "milky" look. On bottom is my 1973 112 clearly showing striations. Thanks again for your help!

In the early 80's Buck decided to modify the flat frame of the 112..Samples were made and taken to the Blade Show with around 5 different versions for Chuck and various collectors and regional sales managers to get there opinion. One was chosen. At first only the front bolster was radiused and the rear lockbar was flat but latter that was radiused too. During the change you can find a few rare versions with Stag and/or finger grooves..

TAH the story I heard from Joe Houser about the 4 pins was during the change there was about 2 pails total of 110/112 frames Buck did not want to waste so they were made using 4 handle pins. Slightly more 110's than 112's and I figure about 400 total maybe a little more. To find a NIB version with correct shieth and paperwork of either one is extremely rare and in fact I have only seen one 112 and I think two 110's since 2007. I purchased a new 4 pin 112 ( without box or shieth) from Joe at the Blade Show around 2011 so I had one for the collection and was soon outbid for the NIB one on Ebay that went for well over $200.00 that showed up a few years later. There is a forum member from a few years ago that had OVER 50 of the 4 pin knifes and since it's a easy to see at a glance odd many have disappeared in collections never to be seen again lol!

Thanks for the backstory, bucksway. I've seen a few 4 pin 110s over the years, but didn't remember seeing a 112. Figured they were pretty rare.
