What are your thoughts on 112's with finger grooves? I was wondering how they felt since the 112 has a smaller handle to begin with. When I got my first 110 with finger grooves it took a bit to grow on me and now I love them. I have large hands and I don't know if a 112 would feel awkward or cramped. I want to get a custom 112 and I was seriously thinking about the fg version since I like the 110 with grooves. If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate it. And I'm sure all of us would like pictures if you have them and want to share. Thanks in advance guys...

I ordered these 112's with finger groves, as well as no rivets.
All of my 110/112 would be FG's when I can find then.
The 112 may seem really small in your hand after a 110.

Those are beautiful my friend. I like the size of the 112 a lot. I feel like I get such a good grip with the shorter handle and the choil. The most important thing is that I find the blade is more useful at work (and unfortunately I put in over 80 hours a week). As much as I like the 110, most of the time I really don't need that much blade....

When I handle a 112 I am always amazed at how much smaller and lighter it feels than my 110's, yet has nearly as much capability (small game, medium game, and general hunting/woods use). I have two of the Rangers with standard grips (one old "blocky" design and one of the rounded frame design) and one modern 112 with finger grooves - I prefer the standard frame over the finger groove frame - maybe that is just from familiarity. I just don't think about positioning my hand on the standard style, but I do when handling the finger groove style. OH

Ps PackRat - BEAUTIFUL knives!

I have several 112s and 110s that are finger grooved. The photo will give you an idea of the size comparison...I would suggest you go and find one that you could hold in your hand. I had several of the ones pictured slimed down and they fit my smallish hands better than stock ones. The third and fourth ones are stock thickness. HTH, Preston

Yes, the 3rd and 4th models are the style of finger grooves I prefer. Just the shallow type. Some nice photos guys. DM

A drop point 112 will do 90% of all knife needs. Finger grooves can make a more secure grip and you can add your own slight version to a regular handle if you want to experiment.

The finger groove 112 actually pre-dates the finger groove 110.
Started with the three dots in the very early 1980s.

I'll let everyone else have all the 112s though. :)

Stumps, your correct, finger grooves were introduced on the 112 first with the a 3 dot blade. Finding one is another matter. As I had to look a good while before finding one.
Bucksway, I may place the percent a little different but I'll agree that a 112 will do a lot of cutting. DM

I think the 112 is just about as capable as the 110. Sometimes a little more for me actually. I think it's a small sacrifice to give up some handle when you need a shorter blade. I go back and forth between the two a lot and lately I've been really digging the 112. I have one 110 custom and it's time for the little brother. I was kicking around the idea of getting a standard 112 with the finger grooves to see if I liked it before I dropped the coin on one from the custom shop, but that seems like it would be a waste of money. I just wanted an opinion from guys with bigger paws on whether or not it was comfortable....

I like finger grooves but I have an average size hand. Here are two FG models. One is a 3 dot 12 FG and the other is a Custom shop 112 with FG and S30V blade. You'll notice how shallow the FG's appear on the CS model.

Either way, you won't go wrong. My Custom Shop 112 (S30V, brass frame, oak grips, rivets, no FG) is one of the best cutting blades in a compact package that I've experienced.

Sportingspecialist- those are some shallow grooves, they look really far up the handle too. Regardless, that's a beautiful knife. Makes me want one even more. I can't wait to get one in S30V...

When I first received this CS 112 I thought they forgot the FG's.I had to turn the knife to look directly at the FG's to make sure they were there.LOL

I was going to send it back but then thought that this is what makes CS knives unique and individual, compared to standard production models.

I'm a person with some bigger paws. My 110 doesn't have finger grooves, and I like handling/using it. My 112 has finger grooves, and is uncomfortable to handle; disappointed I got it configured that way. I tend to not pick the 112 up that often.

Plan to get another 112 without the finger grooves....mine will be a custom design, too.

Thanks man. It's a pain not having any way to handle one before I get it. There aren't too many places that sell 112's off the shelf. I wish I got my CS 110 with finger grooves, but I don't want to regret getting them on a 112. They're not cheap enough for that. I reckon I can get a regular 112FG and see if I like it, then keep it as a beater or something.

Not any prob. Best in your search for the 112 design that will fit and service you well.
