119 at wal-mart

Let me preface this by saying I have not shopping in a Wal-mart in around 5 years and I may step into one maybe once a year, I dont like the place. That said this thread had me curious so I stopped by one today to see what they had. They no knives out on the shelves in clamshells except some camping/fishing ones. They had a display case with a few handful of folders. Mostly Gerber and Camulius. I think they had 2-3 Bucks, the only decent one was the 110. Wasnt even prices marker for them. Ive had better luck at my local K-mart. They really arent into sporting goods anymore and ive picked up a few SAKs on clearance for $5 and just recently a bucklite for $11. Still waiting for the day when there only 110 and 119 they have are marked down.

I don't want to spoil the party... So can we talk about big box stores now...
I got the boot when I did... I was telling everybody about a good deal on a
fishing knife at a big wholesale store... I don't see what the big deal was...
I don't work there...

Anyway are Big Box Store doesn't have any 119's... I haven't seen one there
in 2 or 3 years or more... :)
Same deal don't want to spoil anything but I asked a month ago if I could mention a store and price (which I don't work for any store) and I was told no. It was the 119 and it was in the clam but cheaper than the prices you are mentioning. Don't really know where the line is. Price and store over the line? I was told sales couldn't be mentioned but even the reg price was decent. I ask cause Im a sale shopper. Limited budget and I look for sales on everything at stores(not just knives) If its not allowed I understand cause of advertisers but Im confused.

On topic of walmart, ours is terrible. Almost nothing. Sometimes there is only 5 knives on the shelf and no guns and almost no ammo. Think ours is anti hunting cause its one of the bigger walmarts in the area and its a huge hunting state.

Big box stores in general, and Walmart specifically, tailor and fine tune their inventory geographically. What is available in one location, may or may not be available in others.

Locally to me...
Walmart is stocking the 110, their version of the Spitfre (called the Slimline?), a Bantam, one of the scaleless fixed blades and 2 of the Chinese made slip joints.
K-Mart is stocking both the 110 and the 119 (both under $40), a Bantam and a Bucklite Max folder.
Lowes has reduced their Buck offerings to 2 or 3, a low end Vantage and 2 Chinese made slip joints.
REI (I consider them big box) has reduced Buck offerings to 1 or 2 small locking folders. I forget the models.
Sport Authority has a few, including the 110 but no 119 or fixed blades (plenty of Gerber fixed blades though).

Wal-Marts seem to be somewhat locally oriented - the ones in my town (a college town of about 90K population) are really weak in guns, ammo, knives and hunting gear - but the ones I have been in where hunting is a big part of the economy have much more robust gun, ammo, and knife inventory (as well as hunting supplies) even in much smaller population density areas. The one in Tooele UT (near Tooele Depot) used to keep a very nice inventory of reloading supplies. OH

True dat. There's a, bass pro in my town and the Wal-Mart has to keep up. Also as cabelas, within 30 minutes.

I haven't seen One of those bucks or even sogs in awhile now that you mention it. Then again I could never buy into the knives at Wal-Mart. I purchased a vic super tinker there. That's it

OK,

We have gone along without too much 'thin ice" talk. I have kept quite. But, since Hobbiest said he was told not to do something I am commenting.

You cannot mention a "particular" store and a price. I have let you slide because the giant store name that was used was not connected to a town and the OP didn't have his town in his header. Your discussion was about "availability" not too much about prices. A couple of prices were mentioned. As long as you talk about losing a particular model, discontinuing models, etc. I am watching and letting you coast. Don't mention, the exact spot and what you paid for a knife. Don't mention particulars, be as general as possible.

Also remember to never talk about buying from individual and how much you paid.

I keep having an occasional double post, which is what happened here. I have noticed some of you have also. Wonder what the culprit is....

Stopped in this weekend and was surprised to see that the only Buck models they now carry at the big store is the 110 and the 870 Bones. Not even any of the off shore production slipjoints. Kinda bummed me out.

You know,

With WM being a national retailer and expanding all the time we likely will be talking about them 'from now till the cows come home" ( i.e. Dairy cows coming back to barn to be milked)

I will keep trying to educate by saying no prices, no exact locations. I will say that WM talk is just gonna happen an as long as you don't talk money we will all get along. I likely go there myself for stuff because its easy. I try to go to lumber yard and old hardware store as much as I can to keep them in business. You know I haven't bought a knife in my little hometown in a dozen years. Maybe once at a yard sale.....300

For some reason their products in sportingoods vary from store to store. I have 3 different ones within 15-20 min from my house. All three have variations in the knives they offer.

I don't shop there for SGs anyway. Or anything else if I can avoid it.

A big sports retailer is better.

I guess it's OK that you can save money and buy immediately online instead of waiting for products to trickle down to local retailers, but it sure miss walking into an SG or department store and getting to look at & handle stuff that wasn't packed in moulded plastic.

My Walmart has 110 and Bones. Used to have more. Menards seems to have a lot of Buck knives and Farm and Fleet as well. Walmart 110s have Chinese poly sheaths, me adds and Farm and Fleet have Mexican leather sheathes.
