I wish the 124 was a bit more reasonably priced, its about 150 right now seems a little steep compared to the 119 which is about 1/3rd the price. Id like to see those phenolic handles checkered ,too ,or available w kraton, that would b nice. guess they don't want to tamper w classics..
To be honest part of my post is in spite to myself because i thought I messed Up my 124 in sharpening it. I achieved A shave sharpness but a little bit of the tip on one side isn’t a sharp as the otherthe 124 is a different knife all together. Full width tang and Usually micarta scales. Better fit and finish all around. Much nicer sheath. More materials all around. So I can see the price being higher.
Don’t forget it is not that long ago 124’s weren’t in production and on the used market they were commanding high prices.
What about the edge not being perfect? Well i guess It’s strange because it does shave! It’s sharp lol. But are you serious? You scotch brightest your 124??You can’t let those things bother you. Scratches happen. It’s a tool not fine art. If I scratch a blade I go over the whole thing with a scotch brite pad to blend it all into a Matt finish.
Oh wow you weren’t kidding! You are right i shouldn't worry! Tell me some of the stuff you use your 124s to do that people say you probably shouldn’tView attachment 1324523Both of these have seen a scotch brite Pad. The bottom one has had the tip broken and reground. The top one has a chip near the Ricasso.
Yes!!Once you make it your own. You can really enjoy it.
This is a strange assessment but have you ever noticed that the black micarta 124 has the body shape of an orca?Once you make it your own. You can really enjoy it. I should have said this first. I rarely bugger up a blade on my own. Those both came cheap because they were already buggered up. I knew I could bring them back.
this is amazing! Do you have Instagram or Facebook? I’d love to follow you brother! This has helped me out so muchIf a knife has a flat grind. I’ll even lay it flat on my diamond stone. And rub it to knock off any high spots and even thin it out a little. With the stone or the pad always rub the long way. I want the scratches to be parallel to the edge.
Any knife I use I add a very small sharpening choil. If it’s not silver soldered I’ll JB WELD the blade at the guard to stop bunk from going inside. If it has a single guard I’ll usually add thumb grooves to the spine. Like I said make it your own. This Western had all that done to it. It was in sad shape when I got it.

I love this! Make it my own!! I wont Be afraid to use it and make it my ownLOL! No I’m just a regular guy who likes knives. I’ve ruined a few and made some better. It’s been fun. I’ll answer any questions you have here no problem.
I started young.
My dad gave me a Swiss Army knife when I was 6. He broke the points off the two blades. For safety purposes. By the end of the week I had filed them back to points. (This was before even the first Mcgyver)
My second knife was a carbon steel Camillus 72. I used it to clean a fish then put it through the dishwasher. It came out a rusty mess. Soaked it in mystery oil and cleaned it with. Steel wool. That’s how I learned about patina.
Then he gave me an old soligen sheath knife for my tool box with no sheath so I couldn’t carry it. I broke the handle throwing it. By the end of the summer I had made a sheath and a new handle for it.
The for my 13th birthday he gave me permission to buy my first 110. It was all squared off and blocky. So I filed the bolsters until it felt better.
I still have all those knives. They are worn but sharp.
Collecting knives is a good hobby. Using them is a better hobby. Don’t be afraid to mess around and have fun with it.
