119 Sheath Survey

a for me, I like/want the security and protection it provides. Preston

I like the idea of the swivel. But I would pick #1. My first fixed blade had a flap sheath. I guess I just got used them.

What we need is a swivel flap sheath. :)

a = 11
b = 2
c = 4
d = 1
e = 1

"A" is taking a commanding lead. Are you listening Buck? ;)

a = 13
b = 2
c = 4
d = 1
e = 1

For stomping around all are better then D that my knife came with and I would dearly like to have A; easily the best but for riding around in my bag in a hot SUV in the TX heat I'm fine with the one that it came with.

Actually, D would make a nice designated backpacking sheath. Lightweight and weatherproof. :thumbup:

a = 14
b = 2
c = 4
d = 1
e = 1

A resounding vote for "A". Fully protects the knife from accidental loss, protects the pommel from bumps and scratches, and it's one of the features that I most admired about Bucks when I first discovered them, as a kid. I often buy them when when they come up on Ebay, just because I can't resist. I would definitely be willing to pay more for a new Buck with this style of sheath.

I didn't realize how many folks were worried about scratching, dinging, or losing their field knives. I'm voting again for the dangler... lol My 118 is great in the flap over sheath! Unfortunately the lack of articulation keeps it in my pack because I can't sit down in my stand with it on my belt. I guess it won't get scratched, dinged or lost in my pack..:thumbup:

Think of the people who are going to be overjoyed when they find all of these lost Buck knives. :D

Looks like we're the only swivel guys here, Pokt.

That's alright TAH. If we do lose ours we know where to look for a pristine example with no scratches or dings to replace 'em with.:D

TAH,

You nailed it man. A Flap Sheath with a Swivel.

For me it's not so much fear of loss. As it is protection. Protection from the elements yes, but more so from things like briars. Chainsaws, and tough objects.

I wear a fixed blade knife pretty much constantly. Not long ago I had a stacked leather blade on for the day. I was cutting fire wood for the morning. Then went scouting in the afternoon. My path took me through quite a stretch of last years briars. To my surprise. When I got home, my knife handle looked like I had taken a wire brush to it. Not cool.

Sorry to hear about your leather handle, LV. Perhaps a little neutral shoe polish would help restore it.

It wouldn't be that difficult to create a swivel system for the flap sheath. All it would take is to add a steel loop and leather loop to the existing belt loop. Similar to Makael's design below. Just gotta figure out how to get the steel loop on the existing belt loop. Maybe just a large split ring.

The flap sheath is very secure and it gives the most protection for the knife. But, it is clumsy and the knife often rattles in them. I much prefer D, E, C, in that order.
