I have just received a Buck 119 Special in the mail. This is my first Buck fixed blade and I am really impressed! Beautiful blade, hilt, handle and butt. The sheath is awesome, too. However, I was expecting the phenolic handle to be more polished. It has a matte appearance while the butt, for instance, is mirror polished. Any suggestions on how I can shine that phenolic handle?
Cheers,
Louie.

I just looked at a fixed blade 118 (don't have a phenolic 119) and it has a shine to it. Strange that yours doesn't.

Was it skuffed up by someone for a better grip?

Might try some polish of some sort. Turtle wax?

Sorry I can't be more help.

I just bought two model 119 at Wally world yesterday. The handels where polished on them. The blades where not as well finished as the one I bought ten years ago at Kmart, and the sheath is not leather, but they are still great knives at $34.68 each.!!

The knife is brand new in the box, Pack Rat, never been used. Maybe I was expecting a mirror shine on the handle-I don't know why-but I don't even know if this can be done on phenolic.
Tom19176: the blade on mine is terrific and cuts extremely well. The sheath is black leather, looks and smells like the real thing.
Thanks, guys!
Louie.

Navallas, my old one has the nice leather sheath, and is in brand new condition..... The new ones at Walmart had a cheaper sheath, but the knife is the same...just the finish is a little less perfect.....maybe Walmart get the near seconds......
