How enlightening forum it is! as always. Thanx, dear kind and knowledgeable formites!

I heard until some years ago, some ivories were still available, maily for stamps use. Handmade stamps with decorated (rendered you may say)characters works as signature in Japan, and many people pay as much as or more than Mont Blanc fountain pens for one hi-class stamp.
But here's one great reason for me not to choose ivory for my favorite khukuri. How do I carry an ivory handled khukuri into US, where Washington treaty was made!

Now my choice has changed like below. Maybe I should try
1. Wait till another forumites who's interested in the style suceeds in having longer handle, then follow him/her.
2. I myself order it to see if my communication works
3. I myself order an 13" Ghopte, with 12" blade
4. Ordering custom 15" Ghopte
5. Let my soul go free among other HI khukuris to search for 12"er's possibilities like 12" Malla, 12" M43, then 12" Janawar Katne...
6. Buy a 12" Sirupati to get myself rid of "beefside of the force"

Mohd, is your country law very tolerate about bladed tools?

Uncle, thanx for caring. I changed my policy from persueing perfection into trial and error. And my favor also changed from "waste of bate" into "taste of wait".

I'll take time, save up money, and choose the funniest not finest way. If I'm lucky, perfect Ghopte will be in my hand. If not, well, I'll only get the finest HI Ghopte collection of various length.
It's not a bad deal!

Now first step, take time.... "Cheney, Enron, and the Constitution"
Sorry, I'm more confused now.

WrongFriend, my friend, I' afraid that if you order a 13" Ghopte with a 12" blade that you're only going to have a 1" (One Inch) handle on it!!!!!!!
Perhaps a 5" handle with a 8" blade would be better and more what you had in mind? Thirteen inches overall length?;)

Now you have done it Tsimi!
I have never seen a pix of the much vaunted M43 but now I MUST have one... if for no other reason than to deny you the pleasure! HAWHAWHAW! I will now start working on my khuk acquiring powers so that one day I may rival the dark power that you possess.

I don't know what the definition of "rich" is, but I guess I'll have to give myself a salary increase (or two) so that I can start helping everybody else. I may have to crack the whip on my staff ( no breaks, no fun, no how!), but whatever is necessary.:D

FOR THE CAUSE! :p

I may be a new khuk owner ( I'm working on my 2nd doz), but I have a loooong time to set myself up.

For Christmas my wife bought me a couple of khuks. She also just told me after I read her the slanderous post of yours, that I can do whatever necessary to set you aright... HAH!:p :p :p

Hey Roger, you can find a pic of an M43 here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=177873&highlight=m43 It's about 2/3's the way down on the page.

That's what oi really needs -- a Ghopte with a one inch handle. He thinks he's got problems now.

WrongFriend,

As an alternative to ivory there is a material out there called "Corian". It's a very tough and durable type of plastic which is used primarily for kitchen countertops. It comes in a variety of colors including a pure white and an ivory. This stuff makes great handle material! I did a six inch bowie for a guy down in Utah with white Corian handles on it. Polished out it looks fantastic and whats better is Corian provides an almost non-slip surface even when wet.

The problem with it is it only comes in sheets about 3/8" thick. However, you can stack it, and using a special glue (I can't remember now what it is called) made for use with Corian, glue it together to make large blocks. You can't even see the seams when it is done right, it just looks like a solid block instead of layers.

If you can find a place that does kitchen countertop work they may let you take home Corian scraps from their shop for free, since they usually just throw them away.

And finally. That Ghopte of yours is gorgeous!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

"The beefside of the force". Oh man I'm still giggling over that! :D :D :D Thanks, I needed a good laugh tonight!

Don Collins, who makes excellent custom handgun grips up in Union City, Ind., uses Corian as one of his materials. I had contemplated using it in place of wood, to make a traditional-styled scabbard because of its' edge resistance. Cost for two 3/8" slabs of proper size - $60. No scabbard, but it does make fabulous grips.

WrongFriend,

I've think you've got the right idea. I've got one scrimshawed folder that came with papers declaring the legality of the scales. I think fossil walrus.
They're pretty yellow, so I think little problem for this particular piece, but of course, I've currently no idea where these *%$# papers are.

I shudder to think of the problems associated with having to keep such papers with a large collection or convince officials that a particular part of a knife was fabricated from a slab for which papers exist, but that no papers exist for the final fabrication.

Let us all pray that some hardwoods do not become so endangered that similar legislation is enacted for them!!! What an unbearable nightmare.

Everybody knows how to find stuff on this forum better than me. I spent an hour yesterday looking for that picture of the Cantina that Beo cooked up and couldn't find it. I want to show it to Pala.

1 inch handle! Nepali kamis will literally follow my instruction, as I'm one of crazy customers of Bena.

CoalBlack, I keep your idea as the last resort in case I break the original handle. Corian sounds very good from your post. Even better, stacking sheet material with adhesive is so simple an idea that there should be many adaption like G10, carbon fiber, etc.

Kantina pic makes me chuckle every time I see it. My eyes search "Pizza Hut" in the pic every time....

Thanks, Beo. Pala just view the pix for the first time and got a huge kick out of it. Many AM chuckles!!!!
