I'm thinking the 12" AK or the Sirupati. I ordered a Sirupati today in 12. My intention is use it as a camp knife. What do ye think, ye experte peeps?

I'm NO expert at anything, but recently somebody said the Pen Knife chops better than a 12" AK. Awesome kitchen knife. Consider it.

The only thing I can say is, I like my Pen Knife. Wish I had one in wood & steel, 'stead of horn n' brass.

I have the one from Kendo in Australia. It chops much bigger than it looks. We'll see about the AK but I really like the Pen Knife.

If they'd make a few more in wood and steel fittings, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

*Great* pocket knives!

hahaha...ONLY here do we talk about 12" knives as small, little and pockets sized...

The steel fittings are really nice aren't they? It would be great to see more (or everything!) offered up in steel.

I have a 12" AK, wood and brass, that handles like a dream. Its a great around the house, do anything size, that is light enough you don't even know it is there.

Hey Philthy ... is Kendo in Australia a company? Or a human being? Just curios if someone else out there had another version of the Pen knife.

:D

I find the 12" knives to be some of the most practical blades. There isn't THAT much that needs to be chopped around the homestead, but my 12" siru and pen-knife find a lot of work. The praise for the PK is correct, IMHO. I was really impressed with the way the PK chopped, split, and sliced its way through all of the camp chores i stacked up against it. The siru on the other hand is a lot more knifey than the PK. I know a lot of people don't like the little siru because of the handle length. I lucked out and a magical siru with a long handle reached my door a couple years ago. i didn't even order it:) Talk about a khuk picking its owner. I think the 12" siru will make a fine camp knife for you if you don't plan on using for anything more than you would a kabar sized knife. They aren't the most fun to chop with. The PK took over camp duties for my siru just because it does everything the siru can, plus chop. Dan really outdid himself when he designed it. As a matter of fact, the PK did such a nice job that I gave away my 12" AK because it was totally out of a job. I kept the siru because it is magical;)
Get any of them. they'll all serve you well.

I have a 12" AK and a 12" Pen Knife. I like my 12" AK as far as pretty cause it's a real steel villager with a wood handle. But there's no comparison as far as chopping. The pen knife is way better.

I love everything about my Pen Knife, with exception of the handle being way small for me. Fits my wifes hand perfectly, not so good for my meathooks. I've been wondering if there were other options in that size range with more handle, but....it sounds like the PK is as good as I'm gonna get.

Kendo, aka KRAKEN, aka KRAKEN-UP, aka Troll in general has been permanently banned from BFC due to his own fault.:grumpy:

Thanks Yvsa. Sounds like there's a story there from days gone by.

Way back, when I first stumbled onto HI, the Pen Knife was the one I was going to get. Then, I found the forum and haven't seen one come through yet, so I started picking up misc others, like the 12" AK and a WWII villager, which is nothing short of awesome.

A 12" AK made its way to my house the other day. I haven't used it for anything yet, but it fits my hand pretty well.

I made a leather sheath some time ago which rides high on the belt and accomodates the AKs and Siru, though the Pen Knife won't quite fit. However, I'll probably get around to sheathing the PK this winter and it will probably see more time in the woods.

any pics??

YES!!! :D

The Pen knife is one of my favourites.

I'll second that:) The PK is excellent in whatever fittings it comes with. While i prefer steel over brass, the brass doesn't take anything away from the function of the knife. In case you didn't know, our very own Dan Koster designed this blade. IMHO, it's gone from a cult favorite to a dang near requirement for any khuk addict;)

A human being with issues who was nice sometimes, but a royal PITA when he wasn't.

Me Likey 12" AKs! :D They are very useful for light accurate chopping!
They have just enough weight that you can do in one chop what it takes several chops to do with a standard or lessor knife.
And can then be turned over and used as a draw knife, or if you're careful you can place the edge next to your thumb and use it sort of like a plane or spokeshave! :D
When doing so though it pays to have a light touch so as to not cut too deep, the little khuk can get away from you before you know it!
