12" sanding disk

If you were to modify the disc to a 9", you could use the most commonly available abrasive sheets 9x11"

V6, if you haven't invested in the 12" disc sander yet, imo, DON'T!!!!!!
Run a poll on it and I bet you'll get overwhelming negative results about the 12" disc sander!
You're much better off with a 9" sander so you can use regular sheets of sand paper instead of paying the high prises for the 12" discs.
Just my opinion developed from my past experience.

i have a 9" , but this is for my buddy.
he had a friend that makes 12" disk grinders and give him one.
he told him that he could not sell them, because what he needed out of them , nobody would pay the price.

I got 25 SC disk of assorted grits fo about $50 off ebay and am very happy. I like my 12" disk side of mine. Have a 12 and a 9 on the same shaft with reverse and variable speed. But then I can get a lot of heavy high quality 120 and 180 in 2' wide pieces from work

Unless you have a need to use the very edge of the 12" disk, just glue on regular 9X11 sheets, and use that. You'll be able to get more types of abrasives that way, and when it is running, it will be obvious where the edge of the sheet is. Stay inside the center portion, and sand away...

I have just finished using my 12" disk grinder on a knife I am working on.
Variable RPM, easy to change PSA disks (went from 80 to 120 to 400+lubricant,
the SRJ's way :) . Real nice and most highly recommended. In my case I do
some woodworking where I need to flatten out some longer pieces, that's why
I went for 12".

But 12" always beats 9" :) :) - in my case I way able to lay down 6" long blade flat
on the disk and grind it flat with utmost ease.

Hartman's disks http://www.hartmannvariety.com/cat_sandpaper.cfm are
a bargain @ 35 cents per, but this price kicks in at 25 disks. We can get a
community action going here and buy a bunch.

Mine is an attachment to the tooling arm of my grinder. Very inexpensive
to make. A video of the whole thing is @
