12" Sirupati

I have seen at least one person wax eloquently about this blade.
Almost orgasticly as a matter of fact and I can certainly understand that feeling about a blade.

I told Barb that I can tell I am really getting old,because while looking at a pic of a good lookin blond that models a certain style of knife and slingshot and the pic below of a beautiful sensuous Bowie with the most beautiful sinfully curved temper lines you have ever seen... Well I would rather have the knife. Less likely to hurt myself ya know.

I could also put the knife to better use.
( Barb knows this and that is why I can speak to her about such things.

)

Anyway. Is this the smallest type of Kuhkuri for this use there is?
(Martial arts/self defense.)
How thick is the blade and how long?
It also looks to have a straighter
blade than some of the other styles,is that so?

Is there a Chainpuri this size? If not could one be made this size that would show off that beautiful cho and "look" right?

I didn't re-read the posts and take notes so I don't remember who was talking abut the beautiful lines of this Kuhkuri.
I have to agree!! I think I am in love again. That knife has someting about it that tugs at my heart.It makes me want to quote poetry and I don't know any.

Anyway,what is the major or minor differences if any between a 12" Sirupati and a 12" Chainpuri?
Also even though I have big hands and like large handles I am wondering about a Chainpuri that would have about a 5 1/2" to
6 1/2" blade and a 3 1/2" to 4" handle,4" preferably.
That would make this beautiful piece of art have an OAL at the most of 10 1/2" I can conceal that pretty easily I think. Some things are just worth giving up a little in size and ergonomics for.

So the bottomline is.. after getting some input. Can I get one of these made and how long would I have to wait? ... or would this be one of the deals like we done a week or so ago with that small
Salyan Kuhkri and have to have so may orders?
I am going to have to wait a bit to catch up on finances again,But....

Yvsa, the 12 inch Sirupati is in stock -- 8" blade (about 5/16 or maybe a little more thick) and 4" handle. Most of the people who buy this particular khukuri are martial artists or people with a need for a concealed weapon outside a firearm. Anything smaller will be special order and these are taking from two to five months depending on the knife and what the customer wants done with it.

We can make a 9 inch Chainpuri but it will have only a 3 inch handle.

I agree with you about the grace and beauty of the khukuri. It is a sensuous form.

Yvsa, I'm the one who keeps talking about the baby Sirupati. Remember that I'm 5'4" tall, wear size 8 shoes ( and gloves I think ).
What I recall saying was words to the effect that if you're the kind that understands Ghost's comment "...the blade will teach you ( in a zen sense... )" then the baby Sirupati is a very scary knife, and I'm not sure I want to know what it's got to teach me. It fascinates me like a rattlesnake or a cobra. Spooky.

Here are the dimensions of my two:
#1) 12&3/8ths" OAL, blade 8&1/2", handle 4&1/4" front of brass bolster to back edge of buttcap.
#2) 12&3/4ths" OAL, blade 8&1/2", handle 4&3/4th" front of brass bolster to back edge of buttcap.

I just got my 15" Sirupati back from Cliff and haven't had a chance to take the slightly oversize oak handle ( that Kami put on to replace a cracked horn handle while he was over here ) down to fit my hand. When that's done I expect it to be nearly as incredibly quick as the babies.

I don't ever want to be in a knifefight, but if I were and had the baby Sirupati in my hand, I don't think I'd realize what was happening til it was over.

I am reasonably sure that there will be one of these for me in the future.
They are all beautiful in thier own right.
I do think a 10" to 12" Chainpuri would be a siren that could possibly lead me to no telling what and is probably best left alone to only dream about once in a while.
I am at a place that is comfortable in my life and there are many things that I do not wish to have to learn again. The last thing to teach me just a few years back has been enough.

Rusty I thought that was you,but wasn't sure. I remember reading the post where ghostsix and you were talking about that or where you had said this before.
You have my utmost admiration for not wanting to learn what it has to teach you. I believe you are a very wise young man and wiser than some men ever get no matter thier age.

I was going to tell you a story about
a very old 'hawk I was able to rescue from an antique shop in So.Cal.
Lets just say that it was good that I didn't listen to what it had to say.
I have kept it for many years.
Once in a while I would take it out and talk with it until it would make me angry and afraid.
I was able to finally wrap it up in a special way with special things and keep it in a good place for a couple of years.
It is at peace finally and is resting. It will be put away when this body I wear is and hopefully won't surface to cause any young men
the problems it could have caused me. I too know about "spooky" things.
It wasn't wisdom that kept me from rehandling it and then letting it lead me. It was fear and I had seen enough to be afraid.
Some things are better not knowing or learning like you said.

I am like you in not wanting to ever be in a knifefight.
I don't ever want to be in any kind of conflict ever again. I am tired and weary and yet I know the realities of this world today and take measures to protect myself as I know you all do. I think it would be wonderful to carry something really beautiful and elegant to protect yourself and then never have to use it.

After reading almost all of the old threads in this forum I know that there are some really learned,loyal,dignified and wise men here.
On the other hand I thought I was the only one with the wierd and perverted sense of humor that I have seen many of you display.

I am proud to be able to be here with all of you! You guys are a hoot!!!

Thanks Rusty for the specs. on the 12". Perhaps a large fanny pack?
I seldom wear anything but a t-shirt and such and they would be hard to hide in that. I would draw to much attention if I went everywhere in a Ribbon Shirt where I could keep them covered.
