(Or at least that's what he called it. Apparently some kind of "Legend of Zelda" thing.)
I'm sure the Brits feel oh so much safer now that this menace to society has been incarcerated!

As dumb as this is why didn't he just conceal it? How often do they stop and frisk everyday normal non dodgy looking people over there? I get that he wanted to play with it but maybe don't play with it in public.

As usual, there's more to the story. One, the the blade is metal, and sharp. Two, the perp, Anthony Bray, has an extensive criminal record going back several decades and was known to police to be a menace. This is no Zelda fan, but rather a serial deviant who was hoping the colorful, toy-like exterior would allow him to avoid notice by the law.

Copied from the OP source :

We take a zero tolerance to bladed articles in public, and Bray has fallen afoul of this.

"It is possible to find fidget toys that aren’t six-inch blades. It is possible not to walk down the street holding them out in front of you. With a bit more self-awareness, Bray could have avoided contact with us completely.”

The trouble I see with these laws are that they can be applied to anyone the authorities decide to punish ...or not .

Not just criminals or nut jobs like "Bray" . Anybody .

I don't understand why more people over there aren't carrying a cane as a "medical aid".

Keep politics and rude remarks out of the discussion folks, or additional posts will be removed and warnings handed out.

According to search results, Anthony Bray had a prior conviction in 2011, serving a four-year sentence for burglary.

According to the news story "Bray was said to have approached officers with the item visible in his hand, at which point he was arrested as he was carrying a bladed article."

While I think the UK statutes on knives are generally ridiculous, Bray couldn't have been ignorant of them. Yet he walked up on some coppers, as a felon, with arguably a weapon in his hand. Sounds like a play stupid games scenario, and he won the prize.
