124/122... or ???

Thanks Telechronos, I always like to see pics of other collectors knives... Is your box a two piece or one??? I wish the two Daves would post some pics too... So I have a 1972, 124 that's cool... I wish I had the box for it... Thanks again... ITE

Here is the Pic you requested. I tried to show the unusal grain of the Grey-Black Buckarta.

It does come with the two piece box with the little gold label on the end which says, "FRONTIERSMAN, Model 124."

Now I have two sets of pictures that I would like to see posted here. 334Dave's referenced above and GD526 Dave's 1972 122 and his 1972 124 with no pommel hole.

By the way, 334 Dave, while you quote my post I don't think that anywhere in it did I suggest that the 1972 124s were made "tell late 72." You will have to challenge GD526 Dave on that one.

i did not mean to say you were in error
i was jest using your post to show that most would say my knife could not exist
i bought it in 71 when i was in BEE & EM school after boot in orlando..
some time ago there was another 124 thread and i felt some asked if i was..
sure of the data and dates as i could not find a pict of it at the time
i was told once that it was some what hard to find and in 2005 was offered
over 200 for it ..
oh yes a pict... jest so happens it is hi res so watch out trax!

Telechronos, nice pic and a nice 124, did you ever use it??? Looks just like mine, so mine must be a 72 like yours... Cool! ! ! And it came with a two piece box, I hope I can find one someday for my knife...

Thanks again, ITE

334dave, thanks for the nice big pic... How do you like useing that baby for campimg or hunting??? :D ..... Thanks, ITE

ITE!
Nice!
Late '72 and yes there are '122' -stamped knives exactly like this one of yours. I have the carbon copy to this one and the '122' model as well.....so at least one was made, right?
The serrations are the large examples, which were later in the line, from the small serrations typically found on two-liners only. Lanyard holes were often the norm too....but not in every case.
Just some musings on what really makes collecting Bucks a lot of fun!

Dave

Dave, can you post some pics of your knife??? Thanks ITE

it is one heck of a camp knife!
as a dive knife it left some thing to be desired
a dive knife is not really a knife rather a tool that cuts
i used it at the deer stands in texas and florida
and at camp outs
wonder full were you need a big knife
were you need a little one then the 102 would work
or the 121 would be better
not a combat knife either little too big
but if you going deep in the woods
you can not beat it ....
i like it

hummm is there ANY one else here that has really used a 124?

Yes, Dave, I did. I used the white one you have now several times at
archery turnaments for cutting sausages and digging out my arrows out
of trees --- the trees which always jump infamiously into the flight path
of the arrows.

Best,
Haebbie

I would love to see a pic of the white handle one... :D ...

I cannot say whether or not the one in my picture is like the one that Haebbie gave to 334Dave, but here are a couple of 124s in unusual colors. This is a white 1991 124 with mirror polished blade--a real good looker. Its box says that it is "Bone." I assure you however, that it is blindingly white. Certainly whiter than my picture.

Along with it I threw in a more unusual yellow handled older 124 with slab sides. I know of only one other and that is in the possession of Evil-Eye-Earl.

there are previous postings of the other off color Buck--the Maroon Micarta 124.

I found three of them in Germany. Two went back to the States and the last
one I put into my collection. There were 250 made for the European market
and it is hard to find one in the U.S.A. But I have a look at it. As promised earlier:
If I find one more I'll take it. I know, one of you, guys, would be lucky to get it.

Best,
Haebbie

I thank Haebbie for posting the pics of his white 124s. It is interesting that his are date stamped 124V, which makes them two years older than mine. His being 1989 and mine being 1991 (124+).

Also, I should note that my Yellow handle 124 (not merely a faded white), a three liner, bears no date symbol suggesting that it was pre-1986. Joe can find no records to narrow the date down further.

I hope this is not repetitive but I was not proud of the previous pics of the white and yellow 124s, so I have updated the pics with, what I think is a better pic.

Telechronos, as I remember Joe wrote one day that the white ones were made with blades from '89 and '90. But the third one I got has the date stamp from '93. So I don't wonder that you have one from '91. Also I wouldn't wonder if the knife without a date symbol would be an early build out from the Factory or a custom made from Leroy Remer who owns a lot of old handle material and who is able to rehandle old Frontiersmen.

ITE, yes, there were lucky circumstances to find the knives.

Best,
Haebbie
