Am I the only one who felt the arm scene could have been longer?

At one time during the actual event, John must take the pliers of the multitool and remove the tendon, as he cannot cut through it.

To me that's a major thing man, totally shifting your tactic mid arm sawing off. Stopping, akwardly fiddling with the tool, grabbing hold, and yanking it out.

That was really the only issue I had with the movie, otherwise I loved it.

"Why the hell do you carry that huge goddamn knife hiking?"
"Because that swiss army knife ain't going to cut your arm of when it's pinned in place by a rock!"

Watched it last night. Good story, it is easy to see how someone who is knowledgeable, can get caught in a mess if you don't take the right precautions.

I watched it last night. Pretty good movie that shows stuff can sure happen fast. He kept his head and did what he had to do to survive. Though cutting that arm off had to be a challenge to say the least.
At least it would be for me......

Haven't seen the movie..yet...I have read the Book, "Btween a rock and a Hard Place", in his book he was talks about alot of his other "adventures" . that rock was not the first time he "survived", he also survived near drowning, almost lost fingers to frost bite, and stuck in an avalanche, he's a lucky guy. I used to be real bad at just taking off on hikes, now I make sure there are a few people who know where I am going and when I should be back.

I bought the movie, we are going to watch it tonight after I take a few more photos.... I love stories like this.

A brilliant movie on all fronts. Everyone talks about the arm scene (first film to truly make me feel nauseous), but the rest of it is pretty damn good too.

I almost think that the getting over the pain part of breaking/cutting your arm off would be the easy part of it. Now I am not in any way saying it would be easy, I just think that making the actual mental decision of doing it would be the hardest part.

In the movie (unsure about real event), he seemed to be going delirious due to dehydration, so the mental decision probably wasn't too difficult for him after getting to the "I don't give a rat's ass" stage. That's just my interpretation of course.

Don't know about the movie, but it the book he describes getting furious at the thought of not being able to free himself and starts thrashing all about in a temper-tantrum type rage. During that thrashing he realized how he could break the bones using leverage. He had actually planned to cut the arm very early but realized he could never cut through the bone.

I have it on my que at netflix. I can't wait to watch it. I'm not gonna say anything opinion wise about it yet. I'm gonna wait till I see it.

I thought it was a great movie and VERy accurate of how he told it. Most true stories are.....well not true.
The nerve part and the sound they played still has me cringing.
I am not so sure if I would had been so collected and would have had the nerve(no pun intended) to cut my arm off. However, I do have 3 truly amazing kids and a special wife who is the most beautiful and inspirational person to me. I would hope if I were in that situation I would get enough nerve(again no pun intended) and courage to cut a body part off.

hahaha... i just watched this tonight before seeing this thread. all i could think of was an esee 5 could've taken care of that rock.

seriously, though... i really thought it was a great movie for all the reasons already stated. i thought it was really well done. i like how they didn't make it all hollywood. i mean the story is already incredible on it's own, but i didn't feel like they had to go overboard with it to draw people in. this dude's story is compelling enough on it's own.

let people know where you are going, take someone with you, and bring some extra water!!! :barf:

 I think that any movie which illustrates the strength of the will to survive deserves a huge thumbs up!

I thought it was a great movie. It really made you feel how bad of a situation he was in.

Wow. That is something for sure. Hopefully none of us ever find ourselves in a situation like that.
