This one doesn't belong in the same league as the other two: cold steel ak47

This one is the bigger of the remaining two and probably a little tougher overall: spyderco paramilitary 2

This one opens and closes like butter, is a little small, and the handles scratch easily: bm 940

just went through the same problem. The 940 while pretty just felt really akward in hand while the paramilitary 2 feels fantastic, allows you to choke up way high on the knife for detail work. feel really secure when holding it. Has a blade shape and ergonomic that is much easier to sharpen and cuts better. It's a clear winner to me.

And honestly I've handled the AK47 It's very large, eats up your entire pocket and looks/feels like a weapon, not a tool.

Take a look at the ZT 0200, Benchmade 710, and Spyderco Gayle Bradley. Particularly the Gayle Bradley, it's one of my favorite knives, and tied with knives that cost twice as much. The build quality is excellent, it slices like nothing else because of the thin edge, but the blade won't chip or dull easily because of the steel. Opening is smooth and lockup is tighter and more secure than any other liner lock I've tried. The scales have enough grip, but are textured in a way that lets the carbon fiber catch the light.

And yes, I don't think the AK47 is in the same league as the other two. If you want a no-compromise tough and aggressive knife, get the ZT 0200.

I'd suggest a BM710 too, in D2 or M390 if you can find one.

It will be the easiest and the fastest to open and close which matters more and more to me as time goes by.

It will have an pretty thick and rough edge out of the box but still be very sharp. Once re-profiled it slices with the best of them.

I found myself carrying the 710 often as it's just so easy to use, light weight, and you gt a lot of blade length fr the handle size, best ratio of any folder I have had actually.

Not much of a choil or finger guard though if that bothers you.

The Gayle Bradley was the first knife I thought of when I saw the thread title, too.

A few Benchmades worth considering would be the 950 Rift, 520 Presidio, and 15020 Bone Collector. You could also get the Spyderco Military if you want something that's a bit bigger than the Para 2.

The only problem with the 0200 is that it's a pocket hog. It's an outstanding value for a knife, but I've been having a hard time actually wanting to carry it lately. I have a BM 950 Rift, which is my current EDC. It's an excellent blade and I got it for $100 shipped out of the exchange. Also take a look at the Spyderco Manix 2. It's a very comfortable knife and carries well in the pocket.
