These are small, lightweight hawks, a little over 14" overall.
Made in one piece from 1/4" 5160. Spike and edge areas are forged.
These are normalized 3 times in reducing heats and through hardened
in my digital oven, quenched in Parks AAA and tempered
2x at 475F. Very handy little tool for focused demolition/entry,
camp, field, or tactical purposes. The spike is tapered but is not
beveled or sharpened, I can sharpen it upon request. The surface
of the flats is left as milled/forged, with the scale removed. I have 2
availible.

Specs
14-1/4" overall, 1/4" thick 5160 carbon steel
Head is 4-1/2" long, edge is 3-1/2"
Weight is approx. 15.5 oz
Tang area is drilled with continous row of 3/8" holes for weight
reduction, to anchor cord wrap or to accept handle fasteners
Paracord grip wrap with lanyard, tang is laquered before wrapping
Comes with a Kydex bikini-style sheath/cover
Price is 115$ each plus shipping and insurance (Priority Mail Flat Rate)

Yep, a chunky hammer poll would be my vote. That said, these look *way* better than most of the other ridiculously priced "Battle Hawks" available...

Thanks for the interest, guys! I haven't fired my forge up in a long time, this was just the right kind of project to get me hammering again. I enjoyed making these and will probably do more, given the response here.
I am going to try one with a hammer poll, but frankly I'm not sure how it will work out trying to upset 1/4" stock into something thick enough for that. It's worth a try but I'm not counting chickens yet on that, will get back to you guys with the results.
As for the steel, I am willing to try anything withing reason but 5160 is the only stock I have on hand in the size needed for this design. I will be looking into getting some L6 and other types as requested but it will probably be a week or 2 before I can get hands on it.

I'm afraid the hammer poll is not going to work out on these, guys. I tried and am not able to get the 1/4" stock to upset enough to form a repectable hammer face. To use thicker stock in order to solve that problem will cause a huge overall weight increase and kill the balance, because the tang and shaft will be thicker. Forging these sections down to make them thinner/lighter will increase the amount of labor by a wide margin, and therefore the cost, so I'm not sure it makes much sense to do it that way. Unless you guys are going to be satisfied with a thin, flat hammer poll then I just don't see how to make it work without driving the cost up beyond reason.

I wasn't thinking about the hammer poll - just a flat back would work fine for me. But hold that thought... I'm not entirely convinced I wouldn't put that "spike" to good use, since you left it unsharpened (making it a great pry tool).

I would be happy to make one with a flat back if you want, or I have one in progress with the spike yet un-tapered, so it is
1/4" thick all the way out, this one is about 1-1/2" longer overall and just short of 16". I can finish one up either way this weekend, if you let me know which you would prefer.

I will take them both if they are not spoken for... Z

Niether of these is spoken for yet. I should note if you buy both that they are not identical, the profile of the edge and spike vary a little bit, and the sheaths will not interchange without fit issues.

Ok, I believe the two listed here are sold and the others that I have in progress are spoken for as well, still pending confirmation from some buyers. I appreciate the interest and responses, I will be making and listing more of these as time permits but am out of material on hand at the moment.

Zstat-the two listed here are yours, if you want them, I will get a shipping total to you tomorrow.

CapitalizedLiving-still waiting to hear back from you but I have your name on one of the one in progress, please let me know about the spike/flat back
