15,000 knives confiscated?????

Hey Guys..

cool picture....

If you look in the top left hand corner of that box,, you'll see one of my sheaths,,not sure what its for though...

I also noticed a Buck 110, right above the "Tues"...

I'd love to see a closeup of that box....

At Detroit Metro they sell off those confiscated knives at a kiosk in the main terminal.picked up a nice Benza for $14.99 a few weeks ago...:)

As idiotic as these regulations are, it should be well known by people by now exactly what it is they are allowed and not allowed to carry on a plane.

What I am astonished about is that there are this many people that don't have a clue.

Speaking of ignorance, who would want to carry a brick onto a plane?
I didn't know "bricks" were on the list of banned items. Actually people collect bricks. And if someone has paid $400 for a brick they want to get it home without risking it getting lost or stolen from their checked luggage. Imagine how they feel when some punk at the security station takes their brick and tells them it will be destroyed because it is a "dangerous weapon". Sheesh.

Ah Rev. Pete, bricks are not on the list. The problem is that in the regulations, the security screeners have been given the right to use their discretion as to what constitutes an item that could be dangerous to other passengers and the flight staff. Scary huh? I am just wondering when they are going to start not allowing pens on planes. After all, they can be used as a weapon more readily than quite a few of the items already prohibited.

I stand corrected re: a brick on a plane. Although I would be hard pressed to justify paying  $400.00  for a brick, I respect another person's right to do it. Personally I'd rather spend it on a knife or two. :D ;)

Never mind knives- you'd think it would be hard to find 813 people who don't know you can't take a gun on a plane.

Never underestimate human stupidity.

I am sure it's been said already but have you seen the actual "contraband"? Most is pure and utter junk, most are of the nail clipper variety and of 800,000 confiscated, I would wager you could count custom knives on one hand [ after an accident with a jig-saw].

The provision reads that the contraband is disposed of at the Discretion of the TSA's LE Admin types. If there is a Loveless or Moran in the box, I doubt it would end up in the hopper.

The practice of confiscating anything that may be used as an act of terror has been so mis-applied that by the end of 2002 they will have a box with over 1.5 million items. The TSA knows they could never prosecute that many cases and they also know that when they give the impression that you can either cough it up or be cuffed and stuffed, the traveler coughs it up and just walks. Quite frankly they are now quite heavy-handed and have forgetten about the keys to effective safety; COMMON SENSE and DISCRETION.

If the American traveler collectively demanded their day in Court and the Government was forced to prove each and every item siezed was truly an "illegal" item, their system would vapor-lock and they would be forced to modify ASAP.

Who wants to be first?:(

And some of those guns were probably taken off of "Assault GI Joe's".

Did you guy's catch that story a couple months ago?

Soldier toy disarmed at airport
GI Joe's gun "had to be taken from him"

A doll caused a security alert at an American airport because its two-inch plastic gun was considered a dangerous weapon.
Judy Powell, 55, from Walton on the Hill, Surrey, bought the GI Joe toy in Las Vegas and packed it in her hand luggage.

But security staff at Los Angeles International Airport refused to let Mrs Powell on board the plane with the replica rifle.

Mrs Powell had to put the gift - minus the rifle - in her suitcase so it could go in the aircraft's hold.

If GI Joe was carrying a replica then it had to be taken from him

Los Angeles International Airport

Mrs Powell said: "I was simply stunned when I realised they were serious.

"Security examined the toy as if it was going to shoot them and looked at the rifle.

"I was really angry to start with because of the absurdity of the situation.

"But then I saw the funny side of it and thought this was simple lunacy."

A spokesman for Los Angeles International Airport said: "We have instructions to confiscate anything that looks like a weapon or a replica.

"If GI Joe was carrying a replica then it had to be taken from him."

I'm surprised they didn't charge her with carrying a concealed weapon. Maybe the security ninja's at LAX thought she was gonna drop it in water and it becomes real? Or use the "Bat-Enlarger-Ray" on it?

My cousin's a security ninja at a major airport. I'll ask him about the secret "cache".

When we flew to Tenerrife in the summer I only just remembered to take my Leatherman Micra off my keyring as we queued up to check in our luggage.

I saw the notice and went OOH SH*T where are the keys for the suitcases????

However when we went throught the security check in our carry one was pulled to one side.

I had forgotten about the scisors in the first aid kit (blunt tips with a 1" or so blade- I could have done a lot more damage with my pen or my bunch of keys that I carried on the plane) but the transparent bin that they went into seemed to be full of those little scisors that fold up into themselves that you get in sewing kits.

I did not see a single knife in the bin at all.

This may end up as a double post, don't know where the first one went. I would imagine all the high quality knive have made it out the airport doors in some inspectors pocket on his way home, that's why all you see in the bins is junk. Just my opinion.
