I am looking for some critique on my knife. It's my 15th completed knife. I used stabilized spalted maple end grain for the handle, with homemade loveless style bolts. It's made from an old Nicholson file tempered at 450 degrees.

not a bad looking knife really. Ive made a few knives out of old nicholsen files and had mixed results( probably because the temp wasnt consistant throught the tempering cycles) I like the shape. is than an optical illusion or is the knife contoured at the spine for your palm?is the v grind on the edge a bit steep? or is that the pic? if so ide try to get the angle arround 19-21 degrees per side, 38-42 deg total... but thats just a preference of mine.

I got to see it in person the other day... the pics dont do it justice... Good... no Great work Mike! the only thing I can say is working on becoming more consistant. the file lines extend a lil further on one side than the other.

The spine is flat, just the contours don't let it sit flat, and the edge is a little steeper than I meant, I'd say it's around 45 deg total, so it's not too far out of line. I don't know of any way to fix it short of bringing the secondary bevel even higher than it already is.

right on man, I didnt want to sound like its not a bad looking knife... it looks like a great knife and the handle wood is amazing. im not very far away from you in skill level myself. now build another:D

I really like the look of file knives. I think you did a great job! Keep it up bro.
Cheers

Good looking knife, keep it up.
If I had to say something it would be about the angle of the front of the scales. I would have went with straight across and a rounded shape more like the rest of the handle which looks really comfortable by the way.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks awesome Mike. I've got some old files just never took the time to do anything with them.
