This knife is designed to excel at skinning and quartering animals. Its size and proportions are made for those who like to maintain controlled cuts through the flesh and keep every bit of meat possible. The geometry of the blade is optimized to work well in small game, while still being large enough to be efficient in medium game. The handle is optimal for use in a modified saber grip with the thumb along the side and in a choked up grip with the index finger along the spine. The handle profile is left thin with minimal contouring to allow it to fit in a smaller grip as well as to provide increased feedback about the knife's position while in the chest cavity of medium sized game such as deer or pigs. The spine of the knife is squared with a slightly rounded/broken edge to allow for tactile feedback without risk of tearing your disposable gloves when cleaning game animals.

Knife Specs:
  • 1/10" CPM 3V
  • 7.5" overall length
  • 3.25" blade length with slight distal taper
  • stabilized rosewood burl over white liners with brass pins
  • A leather and/or kydex sheath can be made to order for an additional charge

These two look nice, I'm especially liking that smaller one and the tapered tang on the bigger one is sweet as well, nice work.

The smaller one is my Small Game Hunter pattern. It’s been pretty popular with the locals for a hunting knife around here. I make them with every batch and they always sell off quickly. This is my last one from this batch and will be the last one I get completed this calendar year.

The Woodsman is a full-sized beauty. It just made my short list for 2019.
Thanks for the compliments. I have 3 more Woodsman blanks on hand in CPM 3V heat treated and ready for handles. I also have more of this same redwood burl from the same slab as well as a small supply of other great natural materials. Just hit me up whenever you’re ready. There won’t be any Woodsman blanks in my next batch of AEBL knives but it’s possible that I may run some in the Elmax batch following that. I’m not expecting to be getting into the Elmax run until late summer or early fall most likely.

I have a lady coming out to the shop this evening to pick up a knife for her husband for Christmas. I think she’s most interested in the redwood handled, tapered tang Woodsman as well. It’s a looker but made to be a user as well. I do most of my sales here locally. I’m just now starting to branch out online some.

How much would a leather sheath add to the price of the small game hunter? What would the additional wait time be if I purchased the knife and wanted the leather sheath delivered with it? You make very functional and beautiful knives!!

A custom leather sheath will add 2 weeks because I have to go to a funeral out of town soon and it takes some overnight drying time between several of the steps. Leather typically takes about 1-1.5 weeks of working time due to all the down time between wetting/tooling, and allowing the glues on the welt to dry, and then the oil dyes to dry, then the top coats to dry, etc.

Kydex could be made and shipped out in 1-2 days. It is pretty efficient to make.

I have a two-toned maroon or burgundy leather sheath body with blackened borders and a blackened shadow line around the tooling. It has basket weave tooling and black borders already made up which would typically add $80. But, because The stitching on the back side is a little crooked, I could send it at half off for $40 extra. If you bought the Small Game Hunter with this sheath, I could send it within 24hrs of payment. This sheath was one that I’ve kept for my personal SGH because of the stitching flaw but I haven’t used it much and it’s in perfect condition. I’ve used my kydex sheath almost exclusively on this model without a belt loop and just stuffed it in my front pocket or a pack. The lighting isn't the best in my living room for photo shoots at 5:20am but here is a photo of that with the flawed stitching line showing on the back side inside the scalloped edge by my fingers. It starts to crowd the tooling a bit but isn't noticeable from the front; I didn't hold my awl perpendicular during these holes. The colors of this sheath compliment the wood quite well. It wouldn't make a bad one to pick up at all.
