We all can relate to you scwareuroi. The Himalayan 15" Sirupati is not a bad Kukri if used within it's limits. To my way of thinking it is a basic camp tool or a large kitchen knife. Unfortunately other designs work better.Lots of great points and info in this thread. I now have a better understanding of khuks in general. Also think iv caught the bug as i am looking for my next purchase and havent even received the sirupati yet haha.
This Sirupate's thin belly just limits it in the short blade lengths so the Knives of the same length with bigger belly's out perform it. One weak area is in the chop. The small blade just doesn't have not enough mass forward for a good chop. But the approximately 18 inch, 18oz to 20 oz Sirupate excels in the slicing and stabbing role because now it has the weight and length to do real damage and yet it is light enough to recover from a swing if it was a miss or a feint. Hence the reason way the Gurkhas prefer it and everyone says: "the Suripate is a fighter".
