I was going through some stuff last week and rounded up enough parts to put together a H&R shotgun. Some time before I got the 410 barrel it was shortened a couple inches. Since it had no choke any way I decided to make it shorter. I cut it to 20 inches reamed the muzzle dressed it up with a file . So this is what I ended up with : 20 barrel no choke tamer stock fore arm held on with a thumb wheel bolt from a survivor fore arm 33.5 inches long. I grabbed an assorment of ammo and headed for the back yard
it sot slugs well, federal "410 handgun"#000 (4 peices of buckshot) suprisingly well and shot patterned very evenly . After testing it, this is 15-18 yard gun for small game. sunday afternoon I parked my behind on a log and watched a squirrel meander through the woods from 100 yards away till he got to about 12 steps out from me one shot and I've got one fox squirrel. twenty minutes later another fat fox squirrel popped around a tree trunk and was added to the larder the distance was 14 steps. This is the third limited range gun I have hunted with I have hunted with an original enfield 410 and a 9mm smooth bore muzzle loader. Though challenging I have taken game with all of them
None of these guns would be high on my list of suvival guns, but the would beat a sharp stick . After hunting with this limited range when you switch back to a regular guns it seems all most like cheating . I think it is good practice if we ever do have to live of the land
