$150 tactical/survival hard use folder

I'd say any of the ZT knives... I love my 350... the 30x's are a little too big for me to EDC.

I also have to recommend the Combative Edge M1 - it lists for out of your price range, but if you PM me I can help get ya a deal.

Yep, the ZT0200 or the ZT0500 would be a great choice. Also take a look at the Ontario Hossom Retribution 1 or the OHR 2. Both can be found under the $150 mark. I have had these in the past and just renewed my "relationship" with the 1 and have been suggesting it to everybody that wants a big, beefy camp folder!:D

Okay, I'll be "that guy".

If you're looking for something for camp/survival use, why are you looking for a folder instead of a fixed blade?

You can get some great fixed blades for that much money that will be many times sturdier than any folder you can name, and if you're in the woods, the carrying ease of a folder matters less.
a big +1!

I personally would never buy a zt knife. They simply are much to large and fat. There are many other knives, easier to carry, strong enough for anything, looking less ridiculous. Just my personal view.

If it has to be a folder, than the Spyderco Militaries (big one and the Para) are good. The 520 Presidio is able to do some work before you must swith to a real camp knife.

The only advantage of such a folder may be: You can leave the chopper at camp and come back if you need it. Until then you take the folder.

Over long time, a small fixed will serve you better. If you need the folder in addition to a fixed blade you carry, than look for a SAK Farmer.

Forget batoning with a folder. The attention you have to pay takes time.

But back to your question: Of your choice, the Benchmade 520 ist the best one.

As far as a fixed blade goes, I have several that work pretty well in that role (RAT RC-4, Becker BK2, Gerber LFM), however a lot of my camping in this godforsaken country I am living in right now, has to be done on a small campground, where I am a 5 minute walk away from my truck anyway. I simply don't need a big blade for splitting wood, since I am not even really allowed to have a campfire without first getting approval from the fire marshall  Anyway, since I don't really have the need for a big rugged chopper, I would rather just carry a folding knife, since its only going to be serving in small tasks, food prep, preparing kindling and tinder, etc.

go out and buy 4 Buck 110s...if you lose one(and that does happen)you have three more:D

In that respect, nearly any folder would ne ok.

Personally long time ago i went on a trip with no other knife than a Puma in the Buck 110 - style. It worked well insted of getting any kindling easy. If i needed a branch i had to break or cut it longly.

The folder i know, that is able to cut through small branches in a single chop is the Benchmade 520. Its weight and balance is good enough for this.

For food preparing, the Spydercos seem to me better, they feature no "guard" at the handle like the 520. That was, what i found sometimes a bit disturbing.

Versatillity: Spydercos
Strength and a bit less versatile: 520

The auto version is pure fun.
