How do 154 CM and ATS 34 compare to each other? Specs look similar, but then again, I don't really know much about specs in terms of what alloy elemets do what. Specifically, are there differences in edge holding and stainlessness between the two? Thanks.

From experience sharpening many knives I found the 154CM takes an edge much easier, while reports from customers seemed to trend towards 154CM holding a better edge also.

From what I've gathered from a few posts 154 has a bit better corrosion resistance than ATS-34. Opinions on edge retention have seemed to vary a bit.

I can tell you that they heat treat virtually identically.

Not having worked with much ATS34, I can tell you that I do like 154CM, especially the CPM variant (CPM154).

The composition between them are also virtually identical aren't they? I know there is some minor differences in composition. But I'm not at the point yet where I know exactly how much of "this vs that" affects "what does what"

Yes the two are the same ! However there are some manufacturing differences that have changed for both over the years which will make some differences in performance.
I suggest the two powder metal versions CPM154 and RWL-34 which will make makers and users very happy !!

The carbide distribution of the powdered steels (CPM-154) look perfect under a microscope. This is supposed to add greater toughness to the steel.
