154CM heat treat...almost

Well, I decided to stray away from the 1095 and O1 and try my first stainless blade. I chose 154CM and ground out the blade and got it ready to go.

Now, I have an oven that I built from the plans that are floating around and it's been working great. However, I'd never exceeded 1600F, and then only when I initially tested the oven to make sure it would reach and hold that temperature.

Well, I brought the oven up to 1500F, put the blade in, and left it there for 5 or 6 minutes. Then, I set the controller on the oven to 1950F and let it fly. It reached it within a few minutes (10-15) and I started a timer for 40 minutes. 30 minutes in, I had an element burn out.

I left the blade in the oven overnight and just let it cool down on its own.

So, is the blade toast? Can I just re-heat treat it? It's not a big blade and I don't mind starting over.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Tobin

Should be just fine for a do over. What you have done is essentially a normalizing step. Not really necessary but it shouldn't have hurt anything.

GO for it , What you did is good for the blade, I find that they get about 1-2 points harder when I do that.
