154cm or AUS8

AUS8 rusts a LOT easier than 154cm, in addition, it does not hold an edge nearly as well.

However, AUS8 is easy as just about any soft steel can be when it comes to sharpening.

But honestly, there is no contest. 154cm wins in virtually every category. 154cm is an awesome steel.

IIRC AUS-8 is essentially similar to 440B, 154CM is far and away than AUS-8.

I prefer 154CM. It holds an edge significantly longer than AUS8.
I've never experienced large carbides tearing out.

154cm is a better steel in every category except perhaps ease of sharpening.

That said, one of my favorite knives is AUS8 (Beretta Loveless dropped point mfd. by Moki) and it performs very well. AUS8 isn't a crap steel by any means, assuming it is heat treated correctly.

I'd vote 154cm, but anything that's not a "super steel" is ridiculously easy to sharpen.

154CM is by far a superior steel. I have yet found a knife with 154CM that was hard to sharpen. I have found 154CM to hold an edge longer and resist rust more than AUS-8A. I like AUS-8A too, but 154CM is by far my favorite steel.:)

Better is a relative term , all steels have thier place , even plain 'ol 420 has a place.

For a day to day use knife I would pick Aus-8 in a second.
