154CM or D2?

I think we can all agree that most of the modern steels do a good job. It is a matter of personal taste. Given a choice I think I would go with 154 or S30v over D2. But then again D2 is good stuff. I'm also old enough to like a good carbon steel blade.

Yes Blop, that Flitz polish is good stuff not only on knives but on stainless firearms. It sure did put a nice shine on my Ruger SP101.

(cpm D2)will out perform all of the above, much better grain structure.Good old crucible particle metalurgy.

Finer grain structure to be more specific. It can therefore take on a polished edge without much problem. And take on a high polish finish as well. The folks at Crucible say that CPMD2 is twice as tough as standard good ole D2. I am now using a Spyderco Military with CPM D2. And have not held back in putting it to chores (abuse) where I wouldn' t normally do with my other D2 blades. I' ll know what its all about in short time...

The folks at Crucible tell a lot.. I like first hand users opinion more.

Could you tell us, what you did specificly. I don ´t know, what you normaly do with D2 blades and what would be abuse for you.

I like to hear about hard use stories too, it´s a safe way to get, what a blade could do without risking a major damage.:D

1st...I am no expert on steel , but I'll tell ya my little Ka-Bar Dozier Thorn in D2....will pop hair of my arm every time....had/used it for about 6 months now , cut string / rope / hay bails / cardboard / paper etc etc and a few steaks too........ a few licks on a good stone and its always been back to as Sharp as when i got it........the other EDC is a Gerber covert(flat blade) its ATS34 and it also takes a very good edge , and is used as much if not more then the the Thorn......very pleased with the steel in both...JMHO
