Thanks. I need to reread that. I was under the impression that some steels get full benefit from DI and some really need cryo.

In my opinion that is essentially a myth. If you don’t have liquid nitrogen then use the lower end of the austenitizing range or use an upper temper.

Edit: I should clarify what I mean. Some steel-heat treatment combinations will have a martensite finish temperature that is above dry ice temperature, while others will not. However, when people say that certain steels absolutely require liquid nitrogen I can’t agree with them. If your goal is to reduce retained austenite, go as cold as you can.
