I am about to buy a Griptilian. I am going with the clip point and thumb stud model but can't decide if I want the 154CM or the D2. The D2 is about 20 dollars more but I don't know if it is worth it. This will be an EDC and get used mostly for opening boxes and whatnot. I don't think corrosion will be much of an issue though. What is the general consensous?

I get a better edge and it lasts longer when I use D2. If you do a lot of boxes you will see a difference.

I agree. D2 has a toothy edge that lasts for a very long time. If boxes are it's intended victim, get the D2 and the extra $20 will wind up paying for itself by saving you time between sharpenings and having a sharp knife throughout the day rather than just the beginning of it.

Get a plain ole box cutter...a dozen for about $7.00 and tons of razor blades for it for about $12.00...

If I could carry a box cutter AND a pocketknife, I would. But as it is, I can only comfortably carry one and since opening boxes isn't all I will do with it, I prefer the knife.

I do agree though, there is an argument to be made for a box cutter if all you do is open boxes all day long. I did it years ago and wore out razors like nobody's business! :)

This is starting to get off topic, but if a person opens boxes all day long then why waste money on razor blades? Sharpening your knife is free and you only pay for it once. A knife seems more economical to me in the long run than a box cutter.

You can sharpen the blades for box cutters, there is no need to throw them out, you can even them made in HSS if you want.

I used a box cutter until I got my SE Salt for work, and it works way longer and better than a box cutter ever did. I didn't realize the intended use was box cutting. In that case, SE is the only way to go.
