Been looking at this steel a bit, and it seems that it is real popular for folders and smaller fixed blades.

Good for big blades too, or not so much?

Thanks!

Andy

Depends on what you mean by big. I use 154 CM alot and have made blades as long as 8" with the OL being 13-1/2".Seems to be fine.

I made a fairly large blade out of it, but haven't had the nerve to ship it off to Paul Bos yet due to the fact that it is ground entirely by hand using hacksaw, files, and sand paper. If that puppy shattered during the HT, I would be severely disappointed.

Paul Bos wouldn't have become well known for his heat treating if he occasionally shattered blades during heat treat.

it's the bestist stuff here on earth for knives :foot: :D:D ;)

98% of the knives I make in Stainless is from 154 CM

with the other stuff offered. I'm not sure what the ratio is between, better, price hike to Hype is..

if this don't open another can of worms, I don't know what will.. :D
IMO
if it weren't for the price differences on a few of these ,
95 % of users would never know the difference between
CPM 154, 154CM, ATS34, S30 V and a few other SS's
I'd almost wager a higher % than that..

The maker will see more of a difference in the way the steels works than most customers would ever see in using them.
I'm not saying it's the best but it's the best for me right now.. if prices were the same I could be open to changing my mind..

don't worry it won't shatter if you don't drop it before the draw :D
