I know that I don't post on BF's much anymore, but could you guys please give the tempering temperature for 15n20?

I'm working on my second knife and I can't find the proper temp anywhere. It's for a wharncliff style blade about 3 1/2" long and a little less than 1/8" thick.

Thanks for your time.

15N20 is the same (basically) as L6.Use the same temps. If it is in a mix as damascus( like 1095 and 15N20),HT for the higher of the steels in the mix.
425-450 usually works for tempering in either case.

I read this somewhere :)

Annealing- Heat to 1400/1450F and cool at a rate no more thatn 20 degrees per hour.
Hardening- Heat to 1500/1550F and quench in 120F. oil.
Tempering - 375F-400F for 59-57HRC

Thanks for the replies!

After researching last night on different forums it seems the temp is somewhere between 375-475.

A little harder to track down than I thought it was going to be. But thanks again. I'll see what I can work out tomorrow when I get a chance to work on it again.
