Did anyone else read this article? If so, does anyone on that list frequent BFC. I'd like to say congratulations to the folks who made the list. Also congrats to anyone who made the honorable mention list. I know some of the names are on BFC, but not sure of their user names.

was there a sharpening contest? I stopped reading blade, it is just a pamphlet of advertisements.

I agree Rat, advertisements, reviews on cheap junk, & magical/mystical H/T info.. I let my subscription lapse and haven't opened one in over a year. Now that I think about it, I haven't even missed it.

I get my subscription digitally and load it up on my tablet.... best decision ever.

What was the list for and who was on it? If someone wouldn't mind, thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a humongous fan of any of the knife magazines......but....they are magazines dedicated to our hobby/craft/passion. Before the internets, they were the only way to get mass communication about the subject.

I made a deal with a friend of mine a few years ago. He would sign up as a paying member on BFC, and I would get subscriptions to all three major magazines; Blade, Knives Illustrated and Tactical Knives. I did and he did, and we got together at the end of the year, and compared notes.

He is not an active participant on the Forums, and I let all my subscriptions lapse....because we get the magazines here at work.

I can see the point to the magazines, enjoy them, and I think they do serve a worthwhile purpose. I cannot imagine a world without them.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Colog: What issue, please? I have Jan 2014. No article.

For a maker or collector, I don't care HOW many times I can prove their photo has been viewed on the 'net; having the images included in a print magazine seems to still be the 'grail'.

Thumbing through the january Blade issue, it's CHOCK FILLED with good articles, compelling images, and interesting stories. Right alongside with colorful advertisement, which is business as usual for ANY print publication.

There are many sources to enjoy our world, this is one venue.

I agree with STeven and Coop.
I have subscribed to Blade Magazine for many years and though some issues are better than others, I can't imagine not getting one every month.

Blade has done a tremendous job in promoting both production and custom knives over the years.
I would support them just for that even if I didn't enjoy the magazine. It's what ?/ less that $20 per year?

You just have to remember that their lists, such as the subject of this thread, are just made up from individual's opinions, by no means gospel.
I've stated my opinions in Blade many times and they are only that, opinions.

I don't subscribe to Knives Illustrated.

Edit to ask: I haven't got my copy yet. Was Don Hanson listed in the top 16? His knives will cut you if you look at the blade too hard. ;)

I'm with Steven, Coop and Kevin. Been gettin Blade for a very, very long time and look forward to it.

Need to re-up on KI and start gettin Tac...

Coop, I don't know the issue number, it was in my mail box this morning. I'm not home atm.

I've subscribed to Blade for as long as I can remember. My old Italian aunt told me when I was young that I should always have a magazine subscription cause it gives you some thing to look forward to. I like the forums better, but I still like magazines of all kinds. Print isn't quite dead.

Congrats to Don Hanson III for getting mentioned.

I subscribe to Blade Mag. Steve Shakelford does the best job possible. I belive he is dedicated to the craft and a wonderful person. The magazine has a tremendous value, in my opnion, and I will continue to subscribe. I support the print media, not all of us want everything on the internet. Maybe not the way this thread started but that is the way I feel. By the way Don Fogg made the list, if I am on the right list. One of the greatest. Gary

I don't mind the direction this thread has taken. Maybe I'll start a new one about print vs internet. It's probably been discussed several times tho.

Someone please post the list!!

I enjoyed Blade when I had the subscription. I read it just like a read car mags, in the can.

Seriously though, I always go through and read the articles that interest me most first.

Then I'll go back through and read the articles I only have a passing interest in.

Then I'll read whatever is left. Usually by the time I did that with Blade, Golf Digest and Road & Track it was time for the new ones to come in.

Now I just play on my cell phone.
