just got back from the trip of a lifetime. went from Birmingham, Al up to South Dakota and Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Devil's Tower, Yellowstone then down to Utah and the Colorado river further down to Az. and then over to Colorado and then home via Texas. whew 5110 miles 10 days on my harley. well the reason this fits is that i took my 171UH for a knife, hatchet and semi safety. worked good in the first two getting firewood for camping (oh forgot to say camped out every night) and didn't need the last aspect fortunately.
such a sturdy knife and still no wobble. it was a non-serialized version.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. We did the Dakota part of your trip a couple years back by car, still great fun. Did you do the Corn Palace? Nothing else like it in the world, I guess. I have a newish but still USA 171UH . . . quite a beast! No + on my tang stamp, but pretty sure it is stainless anyway.

I used to keep a 20" wakizashi by my bed, but I got old. Now I have a 17-shot Walther 9 mm . . . with extra loaded mags!
