How loose is the action? Does tightening the pivot screw help any?
If not, contact Chris Reeve knives. I'm sure they'll remedy the situation. I never had that problem with mine.

Have you contacted CRK about this alleged problem? It is possible that a bad one slipped through. If this is the case, I'm sure that CRK will make it right. This should be the logical route to take instead of running to the forums to cry about a possible human error. And from past postings you seem to be hostile towards the design anyway.

If you have a problem, contact the maker/manufacturer. If they do not make it right, then you have a legitimate bitch.

Perhaps you need a lock design that keeps the blade in the handle cleverly, rather than as an afterthought. Try a lockback or Axis lock. Your tendons will thank you.

I have to agree. Always contact the manufacturer to see if something can be done before bringing something like this to the forum. If you have done this and you have gotten no satisfaction from CRK, then fine. Things like this can really hurt a manufactures reputation when all that might have been required was to have contacted their customer service division.

This is not a problem that I have read about with CR knives so it leads me to believe that your pivot is too loose. This can be easily corrected.

All knives that use frame locks or liner locks can suffer from this problem. You have to decide how free an action you want. If the action is set so that it takes very little force to open the knife then it will open easily in the pocket as well.

If this is something that you can not correct yourself by tightening the pivot, CRK will be able to do it for you. This company has a great reputation for looking after their customers.

Edited to put a word in that I forgot.

Never had any problems with mine, sounds like the ball detent is not holding the knife in place. Perhaps your lock bar is not adjusted properly or you did not assemble the knife properly (assuming you have stripped it to clean etc, the washers can get crimped with ease)

Do a search for the FAQ on the CRK Forum.

If this is a Sebi bashing excuse, you will get flamed big time, so be careful what you say!;)

I NEVER MET THE MOULL (spelling) that did me, but I KNOW it was not a Sebenza!! I was only five days old, was in the meeting room of an apartment building on sedgewick Ave. in the bronx. My Dad said the ten wise men, making up the minion all "rubbed" the edge of this yellow handled knife and I KNOW it HURT. I also have no doubt that three or so inches of good stuff went with the excess! Damn must of been something from E-bay!!!!!! wolf

LOL Wolf! (I had to read it twice too General) Fine description of a circumcision but a bit too generous with the 3" I think. ;)

BTW, never had any trouble with any Sebenza I owned doing what you described BR. In fact, when open just a quarter inch or so every one I owned 'snapped' back in place! Definitely contact them and you should have done that first.

Shawn

I am having a difficult time picturing how a Sebenza can malfunction as you have described. Even if the pivot screw is loosened to allow the blade to swing free, when closed the pressure of the lock bar and its ball detent should be sufficient to hold the blade secure in the closed position if the lock bar engages the rear of the blade with the proper percentage of coverage when the blade is open and locked.

There can be a number of problems that might lead to the consequences you present.....take it apart and make sure the detent ball is still in the lock. Clean all the lint out of the knife...especially the hole that the detent ball falls into on the blade....you could tweek the lock in a tad, it will make the lock work stronger in both the open and closed position. After this doesnt work I would send it back. I am sure that Chris' team will take care of you. Or you could buy a lockback!!! :(

I've had them open As I pulled the knife from my pocket, the thumbstud would catch on the pocket, so did your knife just open inside your pocket?

First of all, unless there's something stuck in there, like lint or dirt, when a Sebenza's pivot is tightened, it simply fits. It doesn't fit firmer or looser, the sleeve over the screw keeps it at exactly the correct spacing.

Second, when it is screwed correctly in place, although it is a very smooth action, it should be sluggish. I can flick the thumbstud hard enough to snap the blade all the way open, with a deliberate effort, but normally, a flick of the stud will shoot the blade only about halfway out.

Off the main topic, wolf, -- Sedgewick Avenue? Not too far off: Morris Avenue, myself. I sympathize with the spelling difficulties. Going by Hebrew, it is mohel. But going by the Yiddish pronunciation, I'd say moyl.

It's a bummer hearing about your expensive 'Benz opening-up on it's own and cutting you. I'd throw it away if I were you before it does more damage..

PS...NONE of my REKAT folders have EVER opened in my pocket!.:D.

I thought it was "moil"; did you hear they're having a special at the temple? Half off! Okay, just kidding. :)
