.....

I'm sure you'll get a satisfactory resolution if you contact CRK. Also, as a general proposition, I think it's better to clip a folder somewhere on your person rather than having it "float" loose.

Just my $.02

Sedgewick and Morris Aves? You guys are making me homesick for the old neighborhood. We could stop by Woolworth's 5&10 on Fordham Rd. for an egg cream :D

Wolfie, I think you may have misread the mohel's report. He used an exacto knife and that was 3mm not 3" :p

I'm confused...
If you are carrying the knife loose in your pocket, what difference does it make if it's tip up or down?

Actually I quit carrying my blue BM940 Axis lock, because it sometimes did the "wave" thing -- came out of my pocket 1/2 open.

If I could just get that "wrong" thumbstud removed!

Contact Chris Reeve - if there is something wrong, they will know how to fix it.

BR,

Had the same problem with the Sebenza I had. Was one of the few reasons that it's the Sebenza I /had/, instead of the Sebenza I /have/.

BlackRazor,
I second BrandonB's statement. I'll happily send a courier to pick it up from you (without inconvenience to you) and deliver it to me to rid you of the problem. Drop me an e-mail, and I'll get you squared away.
Most sincerely,
Rob (a friend in need... of your Sebenza:D )

I would recommend that you clip the knife to the edge of the pocket so that the back of the blade has something to rest against. I would never carry a tip up folder clipped to the middle of a pocket where it can come open.

I now own Kelly's "Senator" sebenza, and I did notice that it does come open when I pull it out of my pocket more often than my other sebenza. My other sebenza has only opened when I drew it one time in the 2 years I have been carrying it. It opened because a loose thread actually worked its way around the thumb stud, and so, it would not matter what kind of lock system you had keeping the knife closed, it would still have opened. I am not sure why Kelly's sebenza opens more often when I draw it; both sebenza's have similar ball detent pressure keeping the blades closed. The only thing I can think of is, the handle on Kelly's sebenza is noticably thinner than my older sebenza. Mine was made in '97, whereas Kelly's was made in '98. I don't know why it is thinner, or how thick current sebenzas are, but because of the thinner handle slab, the thumb stud protrudes more. I'd also like to mention that Kelly did send his sebenza back to the factory and Chris rounded the thumb stud so the ridges wouldn't be so catchy, and I believe, deepened the detent hole. It still opens when drawn though. It is still rare that this happens though.

Hey BR-

I own 4 sebbies, and ONLY wear cargo shorts - to work, to play, whatever. Everything but weddings and funerals. Never had one open, ever. They flop, they bounce, they jounce, they get pounded. You've got something that needs some tweakage there. CRK will getcha right. This entire thread is headed for the new "Tempest in a Teapot" forum, IMHO.

I should add, the first couple of tnts had thumb studs....I stopped using them and went with the hole for the reason put forth in this post. If you make a knife that opens with ease the thumbstud will soon get caught on your pants and open up......not a pleasant thought! :p

Ok - this was it.

Now I don't need to think anymore should I buy Sebenza or not - for sure I won't!

If knife costs about 300 USD (and more), there may not be holes in QC or "Monday pieces".

Heck, if put my 30 USD CRKT in my pocket, I don't need to worry about things like that.

never had that prob w/mine, i would send her back to CRK ASAP, i'm sure they would fix it .....

I have had several different brands of knives open up on me in the past. That is one of the reasons I have opted to carry knives in a pouch/sheath on the belt. Gary Graley does some outstanding leather work, and seems to specialize in Sebenzas. If you are looking for more concealablity, check out any of the ballistic cloth pouches with a velcro flap. Everyone will think you have a multitool on your belt.

Good luck!

I carry my LUDT with me everywhere and it has never opened up on me. If it did I would certianly know it. :)

Too bad that you are having a problem wth your Sebebza.

With this or any other problem you may have with any knife, you may want to consider contacting the maker first before posting here.

Knives can develop issues for many reasons- not limited to rare manufacturing defects but also to abuse by the user, damage in transport or just plain bad luck.

I am an authorized dealer of Chris Reeve Knives and although I have never had a problem nor a return on any of their products, I know them all at CRK personally and they would do "cartwheels" to make a customer happy and totaly satisfied with their product.

Take care,

Neil
