Did you contact the shipper to verify delivery? If it was shipped to a PayPal verified address and shows delivered there I'm not sure how if is claiming an unauthorized purchase and keep the knife?

So where to begin. On July 02, 2020 I sold BF member @VincentV a blue handled Piranha X for $100. The transaction went smoothly. He received the knife and said he was happy with it. Even left a positive feedback for me.

Fast forward to September 15, 2020. I receive a notice from PayPal that someone named Christopher Sides filed a claim against me. The claim was for an unauthorized purchase on July 02, 2020 for $100. I though to myself "WTF?!?!" Anyway, I contacted this Christopher Sides. Turns out to be @VincentV. I asked him why a claim was filed. He gave me some bullshit answer about his account being hacked and him being lazy and having his girlfriend take care of stuff for him. He then assured me that the claim was filed by mistake and would cancel the claim. He also said again how happy he was with the knife I sold him. After this email exchange, this guy disappeared. Poof...like a fart in the wind. I have sent him a couple other email asking for an update and that he take care of it, and even called the phone number he gave me. No replies. No contact. Ghosted. And he even hasn't been active on the forum since the 15th.

Now I know life happens, but come on.

Even though I have proof of the transaction, the tracking number, and everything I need to show a legitimate transaction, my money is tied up until PayPal does their "investigation."

I was going to tag this as "BAD" but figured it's only been 2 weeks and he can still resolve this issue.

As far as I’m concerned, this is a BAD categorization. The issue with the PayPal dispute should’ve been IMMEDIATELY corrected. Some people strapped for cash will go through their PayPal and start disputing some of the transactions to get funds back. I keep comments on mine so I know exactly what they are for. If I were you, I’d dig in and get ready to fight the good fight with PayPal and have all the evidence ready. It doesn’t look like this guy has any intention of making things right.

Not sure I understand how the seller can make an “unauthorized purchase” using the buyers pp acct. Wouldn’t an unauthorized purchase originate on the buyers end or is it the same as claiming the item was never received or not as described? Anyway, sounds like @VincentV got some ‘splaining to do. Nice of the op to go with the “mixed” feedback in the hopes of an amicable resolution. Hope Mr Sides decides to clear this up.

Can't say for sure in this case, but this is a tactic used by scammers
They will promise to clear it up, but never do. Then complain that since you started a thread like this they aren't going to cooperate, followed by threats of legal action for you saying bad things about them.
If he is legit, it is simple enough for him to clear up-hope that is the case
If it's a G&S sale PP may cover you even if they refund the money-keep all records of communication and be ready to explain in full to PP what went down.
Good luck-this likely is going to be a big pain in the butt for you

Well, it would seem if he was going to "take care of it" with PP he could have done that very quickly. He should have just dropped the claim with PP and that would have been it - over and done in a matter of days. I would be 98% sure that the whole hacked thing and girlfriend helping is nonsense. No doubt he tried to pull a fast one. You are being too kind with the "mixed" thing. My guess is you will have to change it shortly to bad. Hopefully, if you have all the documentation PP should side with you. I would probably get together all of your info - emails, tracking etc, to be ready and send to PP when they ask for it.
This guy is going to waste a lot of your time. thanks for exposing him and I hope this works out for you.

For what it's worth, VincentV has not been on this site since September 15th. Good luck working with PP!

Can’t speak at all towards Vincent from personal experience although at first blush he sounds like a total turd, but did do a deal with the OP under his old user name a few months back and gladly left him  feedback for a great transaction.

Good luck with this one G,

Winston

Something similar happened to me recently. In that case, the buyer paid G&S and had a verified address. I sent PayPal the following:
  • Original product listing (this was on Ebay, but a listing here should work as well)
  • A copy of the PayPal transaction, highlighting that the address was verified, with the corresponding tracking number
  • The USPS tracking page showing delivery
Of course, they can look up the second and third items themselves (and probably should to verify), but it's probably best to tell a coherent story in your counter-dispute. PayPal closed the case in two business days, in my favor, under the terms of Seller Protection.

Include the email exchange with him as well - that he confirmed receipt he received it. It should hopefully go as smoothly for you, as well.

OP,

Yup, sounds like a scammer.
What a turd.
Thank you for starting this thread.

Please update this thread on how things sort out with PayPal. I would assume it’ll get handled under seller’s protection.

Glad you where made whole by PP!

It's people like @VincentV (among others) that causes PP to have higher fees, thus costing us all...

Good to know, Christopher Sides @VincentV is a PAYPAL Scammer and tried to keep the merchandise and get back his payment via a fraudulent PAYPAL dispute "Unauthorized Purchase" months after receiving the merchandise.
