there are 15 people viewing this thread right now. Wonder how many of them will be lucky sharks today.

I have been browsing the HI forums ferociously lately and am trying hard to decide on the right Kukri for myself. I have been reading as much as I can on the forums lately, but am still torn between my model choices. What characteristics is the 18 inch 32 ounce Dui chirra by Vim that is for sale today comparable to? Thank you

looks like a beefed up Tamang to me- pronounced belly with a modest sweep. I'd think of the common models it most resembles an M43 or a Foxy Folly. I've got a plane to catch, good luck on the sharking... it'll be a few hours before I know the results.

The Dui Chirra is less angular than most other models (similar in that respect to the Tamang to which PayetteRucker referred). It has those two beautiful fullers which lightens up the blade considerably, thus its lower weight. Any other 18 inch chiruwa (full tang) model will be a few ounces heavier, generally. My guess based on the weight is that the spine is a bit thinner as well, maybe 3/8 inch thick. The belly is a bit wider than an ASTK, Gelbu Special and Sirupati, but not nearly as full as say an M43 or Chiruwa Ang Khola/Ang Khola.

No word yet from Auntie to let me know if I staked my claim first. I need to run an errand so I will check as soon as I get back and pay promptly if I am lucky enough.

From your description it sounds like a an "all arounder"? I didn't realize 32oz is light for a chiruwa style. Thanks for the info, I have been trying to learn lately and these blades not tagged with regular model names throws me off.

nice blades up today (as always). Good thing the Bandhuk went, 'cause if it sat, I'd have 'had' to buy it. Great snag.

Yeah, funny that 2 pounds is relatively "light" for these knives, lol. I would say it's a great all-arounder and has gotten much fanfare. DanSmithy did a fantastic review of a Dui Chirra that has the exact specs as the one posted today:

Although you should know that it's not technically warranted for field use, you can see that it's capable of chopping down a damn tree! :D

For sure -- welcome to the HI forum, by the way! Remember, if you want to buy it, e-mail Yangdu at himimp@aol.com, and as a courtesy, post that you've sent an email on it on the thread so people know whether or not they should bid. Cheers!

Heinlein, that Bandhuk is one very sweet looking blade. Santa came early for you this year. :)
