I just received my 18" Banspati and it is truly a royal khukuri. To hold it is a religious experience! Pictures do not do justice to the quality of the workmanship. And though this khuk will never be used to chop anything, it appears quite capable of holding its own against any other khuk, regardless of size.

All I can say, guys, is that if you don't yet have one, you gotta get one.

My wife is paying for the Banspati for my Christmas present. I knew I made the right choice many years ago when I married her -- this just confirms it.

Steven, your description of your Banspati's arrival only heightens my anticipation of my order. Any day now.....

Harry, you're not going to believe it. I don't care how great your expectations are, you're going to be amazed. There is no doubt in my mind that you will share my sentiment that this is an absolutely perfect khukuri.

To be honest, I really didn't think that I was going to be all that impressed by the brass handle -- I usually don't care much for any kind of metal grip. But all that changed when I gazed upon the Banspati and then held it. I was not kidding when I said that it was a religious experience. You just wait -- when you get yours you'll see just what I'm talking about.

Steven is right.They are Awesome!!

I only had one gripe about mine.I absolutely HATE the Smell of Brass!!
It hurts me worse than anything to get cut with it.It hurts worse when a speck of it gets in my eye.

And last, but not least is it turns my hands a blackish green.
I finlly woke up one day and realized that I had a big can of Johnsons® Paste Wax.I waxed the handles on all of them about three times and the problem is solved.

Just a tip if anyone has the same problems with brass that I do.

The 18" Banspatis are a work of art. They are very thick and the engraving is out of this world. Very, Very nice indeed!

Dang it, got my 21 inch Ang Khola today(very nice!!!!), but am still waiting on my 18 inch Banspati(incipient moans of chronic HIKV sufferer) that was shipped on November 22(Could be slow mail or Customs Canada must be acquiring HIKV fever). I'll give it another week or so as it hasn't been the first time that something that I've ordered first, arrives last...

Harry
Who is getting an itchy khukuri hand....

Harry, I would never have intentionally subjected you to such suffering by writing, at length, about how unbelievable the ... never mind. Anyway, I hope yours comes in very soon.

Namaste everyone,

The 18 inch Banspati arrived today! I have to agree with Steven, it is a superb khukuri, excellent blade, excellent engraving(loved the monkey eared owls

), excellent brass handle with engraving. Karda and chakma excellent. The scabbard is good and so is the frog. I think that this khukuri almost begs for a kothimora(rich man's) scabbard to do it justice. I thank you, Dyad'ko Bill and HI and Bura for making this happen.

Yep, Steven, this confirms my order for the 15 incher, so much for my HIKV being in remission.

A certifiable Khukuri Knut!

As you know I have complained about the owl with the Mickey Mouse ears and told the kamis there was no owl in the world that looked like this. The kamis corrected me (and I checked and found they were right), telling me there is an owl native to Sri Lanka which has ears almost exactly as they have engraved on the blades.

Why do they prefer the Sri Lankan owl? I don't know.

But the Banspatis are the best khukuris I have seen come out of Nepal -- or anywhere else for that matter. I find very little about them I can complain about.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill and forumites, I have to admit that I feel spoiled rotten with the 18 inch Banspati. It's going to take a daym good khukuri to spin my head now... What I am wondering, has Bura or any of the other kamis have anything in the works to top this?

Harry

Bologna, Harry:

You have to understand that HIKV mutates rapidly and you can become reinfected with a new strain. Just because you have a banspati now there is no guarantee you will not require the fix achieved through acquisition of a good villager or a Kumar King Cobra tomorrow.

( By the time a new strain has been identified, it's already too late to take preventive measures. You're already past the incubation period and into the acute or critical stage. )
