HEY BILL THAT 18 INCH ANG KHOLA ARRIVED TO DAY, VERY DISSAPOINTED, THE SCABBARD IS SHOCKING, IT TAKES HEAPS OF STRENGTH TO DRAW THE BLADE OUT, AND WOOD SHOWING AT THE MOUTH OF SCABBARD.AND ALSO SPLIT WOOD INSIDE,THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY FIRST NON BLEM KHUKURI, MY POSH ONE, IT IS SAD TO SAY THE WORST, I HAVE TAKEN ABOUT 1-2 HRS APPLYING SOME ARELDYTE TO THE CRACK INSIDE THE SCABBARD, AND LIGHTLY SANDING WITH A SMALL PIECE OF SANDPAPER INSIDE THE SCABBARD ALSO,.
IT NOW DRAWS FROM THE SCABBARD REASONABLY BUT DOESANT LOOK TO PRETTY.
ALSO THE KARDA HAS A LARGE SPLIT, AND THE SCABBARD WHERE THE CHAKMA AMD KARDA POP IN HAS NO LEATHER PROTECTION COVERING THE NAILS, AS A RESULT WHEN YOU TAKE OUT,OR PUT THEM BACK THEY GET A SCORE DOWN THE HANDLE.
I WOULD HAVE SENT IT STRAIGHT BACK BUT THEN IT WOULD END UP BEING $60 POSTAGE = ONCE HERE , BACK TO YOU , THEN BACK TO ME.ALSO THE BLADE IS GROUND OF CENTRE, IF YOU LOOK AT THE SPINE FROM ABOVE, THE LINE IS OFF CENTRE RIGHT UP TO THE POINT.
IE ABOUT 2/3 TO THE RIGHT AND THE OTHER 1/3 TO THE LEFT,THIS WAS MADE BY BURA SO THAT PROBABLY EXPLAINS THAT,DUE TO HIS ILLNESS, BUT IT DOESANT EXPLAIN THE SCABBARD. DID YOU INSPECT THIS BEFORE IT WAS SENT ???. OR NOT , I NOTICED YOU SAID IT WAS SENT BY SOMEONE ELSE A LADY. AND IT WAS A HORN HANDLE NOT WOOD. SADLY REGARDS KEN.
ps awiting arrival of 21 inch chitlangi should be here tomorrow, heres hoping my second NON BLEM will be a posh one.

Foul, This is a known problem, the leather shrinks and will sometimes split. Have you tried kneets foot oil on the scabbard? Or a leather conditioner? How is the actual Blade? you mentioned the scabbard but nothing about the blade??? Also, I have NEVER known Bill to not make ammends when someone thinks something is wrong EVEN to the point of people using blades for what they were not ment for. If you are that unhappy send it back, period. I have the same thing happening to All 5 of my NON blem blades. I treat them every month. Also I am having the sheaths recovered with fully cured COW leather for around $45 a blade so that is another option for you to consider.

Hi Ghorka,

Very sorry to hear that! I'm really surprised about the scabbard because all the khuks I've gotten recently have been on the loose side, and the sarki making them is better by far than the old one. It used to be fairly common to get a tight scabbard now and then but I thought HI had fixed that problem with the new sarki.

At any rate I would agree that Bill will make it right, and I doubt you would be hit for postage in a case like that.

I really think that your knife must have escaped Uncle Bill's inspection. and/or was damaged in shipping--badly. That still doesn't account for the unfinished karda and chakma holes though...

you mentioned the scabbard but nothing about the blade[/QUOTE

I have a few where the grind is very slightly off center, but nothing like that. Sounds like Bura was really off that day. Illness may explain it but you shouldn't have to pay full price for it regardless IMO.

Wait till Uncle Bill comes around, I'm sure he'll straigten it all out.

BILL WHAT A GENTLE MAN
just recieved an eamail from bill,he is sending me a new 18 inch ang khola with a wood handle, so far i have bought 4 hi khuks and this is why the intrgrity of bill as a person, and knowing the hi product is something you can rely on, is why i will continue to buy from hi until i have a complete collection of all hi"s representitive models. THANKS BILL. VERY MUCH

IN REPLY TO Rick2002
IAM NOT SILLY i know about treating leather, if you had read my post properly, i stated that there were splits in the wood, leather missing, nails poking through so chakma + karda were damaged as they were withdrawn for use, blade improperly ground ect, however i was quite prepared to put up with it because of the postage costs as i stated, BUT BILL BEING THE GENTLEMAN HE IS WOULD NOT HEAR OF IT AND HAS HAS EMAILED ME INFORMING ME ANOTHER ONE HAS BEEN SENT OFF THIS TIME WITH A WOOD HANDLE AND IN GOOD CONDITION.regards ghorka
:o :)

Sounds like there was just a shipping error if you wanted wood and got horn. Uncle Bill is the best as far as customer service goes. I hope you like the replacement and it meets all your criteria.

Ghorka, I would not be quick to distain that Bura until you'd used it.
Something else to think about; I don't own a single Bura. He may not make them anymore. I wouldn't give a damn if I had a Bura and it was flawed, especially if from his last works. That would be an honor.
I'm not saying you don't have reason for complaint, but there is still lots of time for 'perfect things'. Maybe not much time for special ones.
The sheath mess happens. Moisture conditions and shipping make changes. I have a chit I am only now pulling from the sheath easily; there are threads about sheath repair.

Just for your thought.

I believe there have been several threads in the forum

dealing with adjusting scabbards that are either too tight

or too loose. This can vary seasonally with natural products.

BTW................

Are you aware that using all caps for messages in any
online format is universally considered SHOUTING,
and very bad manners.
I say this to inform you as you don't seem to be aware.

Sad but true. However, I'd like to get my grubby little hands on the first one he makes when he starts working again. :)

I'm sure most people get far less out of it

When anyone writes with all caps, I think
they lose the whole effect they are after.

Ghorka, send it back to Reno and I'll cover your shipping. I'm sure it'll find a good home.

Glad Bill could make you happy, or at least placate you.

"BLADE IS GROUND OF CENTRE, IF YOU LOOK AT THE SPINE FROM ABOVE, THE LINE IS OFF CENTRE RIGHT UP TO THE POINT"--Perhaps you'd be happier with a factory ground Cold Steel product? Real Handmade knives have these sort of character points (i wouldn't call them flaws) and perhaps you'll know what to expect. The spine grind isn't really important in the function of the Khuk as a whole. Sorry to hear about the tight scabbard, and shattered wood parts.

"universally considered SHOUTING"--Read the Bladeforums FAQ, the one you're supposed to read BEFORE you agree to the rules of Bladeforums. It makes the forums a pleasurable place to be for all.

I've found the problem. You paid $125 for that knife which included shipping to down under. That's a blem price. Yangdu saw the price, thought you had ordered a blem and that's what you got. It was a lack of communication on my part so I'm to blame.

As a replacement I've hand picked an 18.5 inch 2 pound AK made by Kumar. Fit, finish and hardness are about as close to perfect as a kami can get. The karda and chakma are 7 inches, 3/16 thick, and excellently done. All three have beautifully grained and crafted saatisal handles. The scabbard is excellently done and a perfect fit. Standard stitched 100 year HI superfrog.

If you're not happy with this one let me know and I'll refund the $125.

If it's possible I'd like to see the reject go to some poor kid who can't afford a decent khukuri but might appreciate even this flawed one.

well, the poor lad should get it, but if he doesn't, I'll pay shipping back here and have a Bura for the first time.

Ghorka, this is a community of people. As such, I offer this correction. It was rude in your displeasure to ask if anyone had looked at the Khuk and 'the lady'. Don't assume the worst, assume this is business the way your friends would treat it.

hey you guys hold on a momment, munk, as a customer of bills i was asking questions as to what may of happened with my order it had nothing to do with being rude quite the contery,i take great offence at your remarks, you are the one being rude,as for the sggestion of you paying for its return so you can have it you have got to be kidding, you would be the last person i'd see have it.
i too was prepared to keep it as it was made by bura,i have 2buras allready thanks, and am very proud of them.

thank you raghorn for your kind offer to ship it back ,and you would pay for the shipping. i was not worried about my shipping cost back to bill, i was worried about bill having to pay for shipping back and forwards.

ferrous wheel YOU GET YOR SELF SOME COLD STEEL PRODUCTS,YOU ALL TALK ABOUT BEING RUDE LOOK AT WHAT YOUR POSTING HERE,i feel bloody awfull about the whole bloody deal now, so much so it makes me wonder if i want to carry on collecting these any more.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FORUM WHERE YOU POSTED INFORMATION ABOUT KHUKS AND GAVE HONEST OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU FELT ABOUT THE KHUKS YOU RECIEVEDED ECT.
not to attack new members and call them rude, and make them feel unwelcome, and drive customers away from the hi forum ????.

I'll have to side with Ghorka on some of his points. I don't think its right or fair to tell him to buy a Cold Steel just because his khuk isn't the way it should have been. I see people jump all over others here when they try and complain about a defect, and I've been guilty of it myself in the past. I don't think it was rude of him to ask if Uncle Bill had inspected it before he sent it (he's told us before that OFTEN he doens't have time to do this), and just because he didn't know Yangdu's name is no big deal--heck he called her a "lady"--not exactly a put down in my book.

Look what happened in the end? It was a misunderstanding--Ghorka received a blem with a horn handle instead of what he thought he ordered, and Bill made it more than right.

HI is great and Uncle Bill's cust service is outstanding. We don't need to flame everyone who has a gripe about their khuks.

It is and should be. Some days the former and some days the latter.

Ghorka I hope you didn't think my criticism of your "all caps" shouting was meant to make you angry or drive you away.

NO I DIDANT I THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT TO ME , I HAVE ALWAYS WRITTEN IN CAPITALS EVEN WHEN I WRITE LETTERS TO PEOPLE, MAINLY BECAUSE MY CURSIVE IS UNREADABLE ,SO I JUST DO THE SAME ON THE COMPUTOR, YOU MAKE ME STOP AN THIINK, ooops bad habits,i was wondering if the other members thought i was shouting at bill because i had written in capitals???, quite the contarary i think bill is a gentleman and i would never think to try and upset him.regards ghorka:)
