Ford Motor Company brought back the Thunderbird, and now they are giving us a retro style Mustang. So how about it Buck, can you bring back a limited, or full production Buckmaster 184?

I sure like the idea! It never hurts to ask so I will pose the question to our marketing department. We will see what happens.
Take care,

A new Buckmaster would really be great, I sure hope Buck really takes this seriously.

My dad and I both had one of the original series, so that'd be cool!
Sounds good Joe! Now sell it!!!:D

The Buck model 184 is certainly an old classic. Perhaps it would help Joe if we could clarify a few points.

1) Would we want Buck to reintroduce the same knife, and if so which version of it? Do we prefer the Pat'd Pending vesion, or the later Buckmaster version, or even the Buckmaster-lite (Mod 185)?

2) Do we want it with, or without, the large sawteeth?

3) Do we want those anchors?

4) Must the knife be produced in the USA, or can it be made
elsewhere?

5) Do we want it in 425M, 420HC, or something else?

6) Do we want the original style sheath, the later M-9 version of the sheath, or something else; and do we want the large and small accessory pouch set?

7) Do we want Buck to include the Silva compass, or the tiny buttcap compass issued on the original navy SEAL version?

8) How much would we be willing to pay for one of these? The original knives were very pricy at around $150 (1984 dollars). Are we still thinking sub-$200, $300, $400, or $400+ range commemorative version?

The Buckmaster was a good knife/tool, and I would like to see Buck produce it again. Perhaps we can engage the Bladeforums to sponsor Buck's 21st Century Buckmaster as our latest BF marked club knife (as we did with the Spyderco Blue Native and the REKAT SIFU).

I too would love to see a modern Buckmaster survival knife, I would prefer to see it modeled after the early Pat'd Pending vesion, It must have a saw back, they can lose the anchors. :D :D :D

Since I'm from around Chicago I get to vote for the New Buckmaster again.

Mayor Daley wouldn't want it any other way.

I'll vote "yes" too. It was such a cool knife.

In regards to not2sharp's question, how about a poll on what features we want to retain/remove on the knife?

Did you ever try to use those teeth to cut wood? Forget it. The edge is much faster and uses less effort.

To bring back the original would be exactly like rebuilding a 1950's car -- with no air bags, no ABS, 10 mpg engine, bad safety glass, etc. Buck can do much better: better steel, better teeth, better edge geometry.

Of course, if this is only to have a Safe Queen available, go for it. Reissue the original.

I'd love to see the Buckmaster reintroduced! The idea of a heavy duty hollow handle knife is exciting to me. I would love to see a sheath like the original rerained. But I would'nt mind the knife lightened up a little with maybe serrations instead of sawteeth on the back and a not so abbrasive handle. :)

The Buckmaster is one of those knives I've always wanted to get but never did. If Buck put out a new model I think I would be willing to spend up to $250 or so for a really quality piece. Forget the serrations instead of sawteeth idea, I do not think that would be as useful out in the woods (were else would you get to carry and use it?). I also never uderstood what those spikes on the handle were supposed to be used for?

Hi,
I like the 184..Now if it gets an update no sawteeth but serrations on top may be okay.Might as well keep the anchors for old times sake,I really don't know why but why not.Try to make just a bit lighter.Make the blade more of a bowie style, but the old shape may be fine without the teeth. While there making the 184 how about mid size one to go with the fulll size.

Summary (somewhat unfairly, but . . . ): Change it dramatically but "bring it back."

If you leave the spikes on it, it makes an even better tent peg.

I also would love to see the Buckmaster reintroduced. This is the knife that started my collection and I now own three. One is my primary knife on long camping trips and enjoy using it.
