Finished this one this morning. 9 1/2" blade of 01. Steel guard and butt cap. Curly maple octagon grip with through tang peened over butt cap. The steel is lightly aged. Weighs in at 7 1/2oz. The original blade was excavated near Ft. Ticondaroga. Very few knives of the 18th c. had guards, but some did. Usually plain and utilitarian rather than decorated. Hope you all like it. Thanks for looking.

I have a butcher knife that has almost the exact same size and shape ! To me octagon handle adds a very nice touch Like my octagon rifle barrels !

Mister LRB,

I am not sure WHO you are.

But I dang sure know WHAT you are.

Lovely work!

Shane, meet Mr. Wick Ellerbe, quite possibly the best maker of 18th century pieces I have ever seen, and not only does he make knives from the 18th century he knows more about the history and what is period correct to that time period, than anyone I ever talked with!

Hey Wick, I perused your site again the other day and do not know how I missed it before but I got to look at some pics of you and the misses. So after all this time that we have talked back and forth, and you advised me on different things. I feel like I finally got to meet you and I still hope to meet you in person one day.
Shane here is his site if you care to look. A lot more of that kind of eye candy there!
