I have been given a 1937 display case with knives, boxes and sheaths for payment on a job I performed. I have no idea what they are worth? I'd like to verify that they are from the 1937 collection. Any information about the 1937 collection would be appreciated. This is my first post on this forum so take it easy on me.

Have your photos uploaded to a photo-hosting website (like www.photobucket.com ) then simply list the photos' storage location in your forum topic. It's easier than it sounds and doesn't cost anything.

Hmmm, that one was 1978. It was the #107 display, with the #117 under it.
Price ???????? Just my opinion, but in the display, with boxes.... might go $400, up to $500.

Thanks for your help

I thought the guy that gave them to me might be lying. I guess he was.

Do you have reference material to tell you what year the displays were?

I collect guns and have know idea where to get reference material on knives. I'd like to possibly start collecting some knives too. Any guidence would be helpful.

I have a late 70s display catalog, plus several other catalogs up to the 90s.
That is a nice set you have, if your work was about the same price, it was a good deal.

If it is worth 500, then I'm short 500.

Oh well, atleast I got something out of it. I have a cabin in Colorado, so I think I'll put it up there.

I appreciate your time.

I think I'll check this forum out from time to time. It's been good talking. Thanks again for your help.

Cash would lose its value. The display is already gaining value. If you put it up for auction, set a minimum bid at 500 dollars and cash in on the profit. The story of how you got it is part of the provenance. For fun ask the guy where he got it. The reward for returned property might be even more fun to collect. You made the right move by coming to this forum.

A very nice, fairly complete display, not from 1937, but... still a complete set of the AW and Loc-Back knives from that year. As a collector who is also a contractor, I'd have been tempted to make a trade like that, even knowing the year of the display and knives. It's sorta like he met you half-way on your charges. For future reference though, look at the zip codes of the Camillus address on the papers. The modern zip code was put into use on July 1st, 1963. This will give you a heads-up that a document is not pre-WWII. In 1983, the US Postal Service (formerly The USPO) began using an expanded ZIP Code called "ZIP+4." This helps to further date documents.

Nice looking collection and I think worth hanging onto in its entirety. Will likely appreciate in value so if you are not strapped for cash, keep it.

All the knives in the display were introduced during the 1970's. You have one of the modular display cases with one full and one half panel.
Examine the model #3 and #4 knives. Early models feature bolsters that are seperate from the linings. Later models have the powdered or sintered one piece linings/bolsters.
This display will be easy to date by using the price stickers. I do not have a price list with me, but I would estimate the display from the late 1970's or early 1980's. Your display has the model #2, #3, #4, #10, #17, #32 and #1006 knives.

I appreciate any and all info pertaining to this set of knives. Does anyone know where I can go online and get info on this set of knives?

Brian,
Hold onto that set you lucky dog! The Camillus hoopla is just starting with the plant's close last week. I don't know exactly what the current value of the set is (no one can tell, unless you see the exact set in same condition sold today on eBay) but I can tell you it is gaining value faster than any stock or bond right this minute! You didn't get taken. In fact, the guy who used it to pay you is probably kicking himself right now!

Also, try to get some pleasure out of the display while you own it. Be careful, but enjoy owning those nice knives. Take them out and oil them up.

Congratulations on some good luck.

Best Regards,
Kevin

I lost my job about two years ago, and have been working temporary jobs since then. Any chance I could borrow your sign that says "Will work for knives?" :D
