Hey everyone. There is a Buck 110, circa 1963 on ebay. High bid is $200. What do u all think this would be worth. High bidder is from Japan. Do I have the duty to bid high to keep the knife here?:D And do you think this is the real deal before I go bid against this guy. Let me know quick...clock is tickin'. Here is the item number to look it up: 6595807029 Thanks.

Everything I can see in the [crappy] pics and read in the description match what Matheny researched in his 110 Variations doc. Can't tell about the blade thickness; might ask about that [should be .085"]. Spring should be integral with the steel spacer [it says here]. Blade definately been sharpened lots...

Is it really worth $200+??? You know it'll skyrocket in the last minute or so...

But if you gotta have one...jump on it!!! :D

Since I posted this, bid went up to 225. Maybe i'll just put in a high bid, go to sleep, wake up and see if I won.:) Too many knives......never enough money!:grumpy: Wonder how many of these 1963's are still left out there in the world....hmmmmm

Not to rain on your parade, but it looks like someone was trying to turn that 110 into something resembling a "texas toothpick," it's been sharpened so much!

But that may not matter to you. ;) I don't know how many circa 1963 110s there are out there, and they all might be in the same shape!

I thought the same thing about the toothpick. Too funny! Anyway, Iam going to pass on this one. Put my dollars in another Yellowhorse. Maybe.

Panman,
The knife looks to be a real 110 from 1964, the first version. Buck stamped on the "back" side of the blade is the give away. The value for one in new condition is $600, but this one has condition problems. The knife has been sharpended and the profile has been significantly altered and the scales are in poor condition. I have to think that there are examples of this knife in much better conditon. As someone who would love to own one of these, I decided to pass on it and wait until I can find a much better example.
Mike

panmann,
I am not an expert on the early Bucks, (or on Buck knives at all fro that matter). What I can tell you is that the seller is a real cutlery store here in Salem, OR. They also have a store in Portland, OR which just celebrated it's 100th year in business. They are real brick & mortar stores. I have bought several things from them, including their anniversary knife. I have never had a problem with them. They have been honest in all the dealings I have had with them. I have not been to their Portland store, but they have a real nice gallery in Salem.

Happy hunting,
Dale

Only 4 1/2 hours left!!! Can't you feel the sharks circling; smell the blood in the water??? :D

I recognize that high bidder...his username pops up on a lot of auctions I visit... :grumpy:

That would mean the High Bidder is one of us...<flashback to 1950's Sci-Fi flic, "The Thing", where everybody looks at one another, wondering...> :D

Naaaa..the 1980's version with Kurt Russell was WAY better!:D

Cool movie trivia, in the 1950's original, James Arness (later of Gunsmoke fame) was the alien monster.

I agree! Carpenter was at the top of his form with that one! ;)

Where did you get the information that only 700 were made?

I have some Buck 110 "cheat sheets" that I made up to carry to knife shows, that give the variations as a way to help me knw what I'm looking at at shows..

I complied them from several references, but I think those production figures came from either Levine's 4th or 5th edition, in the article written by Vern Taylor. If my memeory serves they were in the captions next to the photos, but not in the body of the article.

I will check.

I don't have any production figures, but I believe it's the "etched" first version where they etched Buck onto the blade that is really scarce and hard to find.

Five minutes to go!!! :D

Anybody think it'll go over $300???

Yes it will!!! 12 bids; 11 bidders; $316.11... :D

Trax,
It was Lizard1123 - I've seen him bidding on quite a few knife auctions and judging by some of his recent wins, he is a major knife collector with pockets deeper than I can compete with. At least we'll know where to look for all the knives we didn't win.
