I bought this on another forum about a year ago, and unfortunately, I need the money and need to sell it. Posting it here at a bit of a loss from what I paid... and will post to eBay if it doesn't sell by the weekend. (Side note: there's a similar item on eBay right now, smaller size, for nearly twice my price.)

From 1961, back when Abercrombie & Fitch was an outfitter for high-end outdoor goods... This is a VERY fine box, made from mahogany and finished with brass hardware and a brass presentation plaque -- this tackle box has barely been used, if even at all, and only has some very minor dings and scuffs from being moved around during the last 65 years. The original rubber gasket is still in place, and that has dried out and degraded. Comes with original key for the lock. This box is SOLID, the full-length piano hinge for the lid is strong and tight, and the compartment trays look as if they've never been used. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are excellent, and the depth and color of the mahogany wood bring me joy every time I look at it. I have no idea who Arthur was, nor do I know much of anything about Lovell Dressel.

I originally bought it thinking I'd use it to store my son's coin collection... but those blue Whitman folders didn't fit very well in there. So, it just kind of sat on a shelf, unused since then.

Price is $500 plus shipping, which I think is a deal that can't be beat. It will be very carefully boxed/packed in a pretty large box, so I'll need a zip code for an accurate shipping quote.

Here are some photos, plus a catalog page for reference and specs. I owe you a timestamp photo, and will get that up shortly.

are there any Abercrombie & Fitch markings on the box?

None that I have found yet -- however, I don't think that was uncommon. These also were available with a cloth or leather cover, and that cover would have had the emblem on it. Also possible that the engraving plate is placed where the badge would have been. I've see a few others that have the badge inside the lid, but those were models that didn't have the same storage inside the lid. And I've seen others that similarly did not have any A&F markings like mine. Basically, a few variations out there.

I imagine this is the Standard Box?
At any rate, it's absolutely beautiful Bort!
Just really proves how well everything was built back then!

Thanks!

This is the De Luxe model. The Standard is similar but a little longer and a bit skinnier.

And I agree, the craftsmanship is exquisite. Certainly not what you'd see anyone take on a fishing trip these days. :P
