1964 Buck info, please...

Trax,Buck used phenolic for handle material and the spacers are as Buck61 says, hard fiber spacer.I wrote some knowledgable guys asking exactly what the "hard fiber spacer material" was.One said it was just a hard bone like fiberous material. I cannot find the e-mail where Joe H. told me.But what I remember was he said it was more like valox and not micarta.Merely "like valox" but not,as valox didn't come out until the late 1980's.DM

Oh, I know I was just saying the knife is in good condition but the sheath is pretty banged up. Besides its not mine.

I was not putting your knife down you ask the value of it and I said some where between $50. and $100. I like the old knife it could be cleaned up nicely, but it's not worth $150. even cleaned and a new sheath. Just my opinion.

It is hard bone red spacer material (a gasket material) and phenolic handled.
It is 440C steel.

And, I believe the pre 1967 blades were forged 440C from Landish Forgings, as I recall an email from several years ago. The blanked blades started in 1967.
