Her we have a used Mk II that was probably used for tis intended purpose. I acquired this knife in 1989 at a gun shop in Gainesville. The blade was clean up a bit, but it still has a bit of pitting and patina. I bought it because, at the time, I knew that it was a cool old MkII with the "tool steel" blade like my late 70's MKI an it had the older style grey handle instead of the later black. I was in the Army Reserves at the time, but could not bring mewl to carry it because it was old and cool and i had just bought one of the early SOG carbon steel knives. So here it is all those years later. The great thing about these knives is that yo can find out when they were made and as such, what type of steel was used and how they were made. this one was made in 1972 has the "slant logo"and that was the last year that Gerber made the forged L6 blades. From 73-79 or so, they had gourd L6 blades. After that they went to 440C stainless that they used on heir folding knives (bad move IMO) and eventually, the current 420HC that Fiskars uses. Like it said, this blade has been cleans up and still has a bit of pitting an patina. it has a little ding o the guard, but the handle is in good shape which means that it was used, but not as a hammer like some you see. The sheath is in the condition you would expect. The strap has stretched like they do, but not to the point where the knife will fall out of the sheath like you see with some.
The pricing on MkII's can be all over the place. The early 440C knives can be had sometimes in the low $100 range and the 80 and 90's special order stuff like the Cutlery SHoppe and AG Russell knives can command a premium. The ground L6 blades with the black ahdnel can also go for $150 or more. Where it gets fun is with the EARLy "cats tongue" handle knives and the ones like this with the gray handles, forged or ground. The early canted blade cats tongue knives for the late 60's can go for as much as $2000 in really nice condition. Ones like this of the later "Vietnam era" type in really good shape got for over $500, even some of the early ground blades. $350 -400 seems to be the more common price for the later great handled ground L6 knives from like 76-77. As this one was well loved and partially cleans up and has the mentioned wart, I am asking $230, which included Pay Pal and felt rate USPS Priority shipping to the Lower 48. REASONABLE offers entertained.
