I bought this new back in the mid 1980's. Maybe '86 or '87. It saw a little use for a couple of months. Then it went onto my shelf. And then into my drawer. And then onto another shelf...and then onto a hook hanging from a large metal Book Store sign i keep in my room. The blade is quite dull. I have no idea what steel was being used at that time. If you look closely at the blade edge, you can see what look like very very tiny bumps, or chips in the metal. Extremely small and hard to see. The knife will need sharpening anyway, so this shouldn't be much of a problem. The blade looks bead-blasted. Very non-reflective. The guard and butt of the knife are a similarly bead-blasted brass.

Blade width seems to be right around: 3/16 in. thick
Blade Length: 6 in.
Handle: 5 1/2 in.
Steel: ???

The handle material feels like a very hard rubber material. I believe the handle material has rubbed off at both ends of the knife and gotten a bit gummed up on the guard and the butt. Mostly the guard. Nothing is loose, and the tang of the knife is still completely covered. It's just not cosmetically pretty on the handle and butt anymore. The blade itself has a few very very light scratch or rubbing marks on the bead-blasted finish.

The sheath is just beat up and old. The velcro closure has lost one side, so it doesn't close anymore. There are two slits to thread a belt through on the back. The higher one is stretched out from being hung fro ma hook for a long time. I doubt anyone would want to keep the sheath, but i thought i would mention it.
I decided i wanted to offer this knife for trade and see what happens.
I also have several pics of the sheath if anyone wants to see it.

Just wanted to clarify that i am willing to trade for used knives with scratches, minor dings, and cosmetic damage. Frankenknives built from left over parts after swapping out blades/handles to build a desired knife. Damaged scales/handle materials. Even good knives missing their scales altogether.

These had a bead-blast AUS8 steel, same as the orig tanto, but no polish. Handle was kraton, sheath was leather, same pattern as the orig tanto as well.
