This is one of the most sought after of Microtrch's vintage production knives. Made in the early days. Vero Beach, Jan. of 1998. Back when Tony did the edges himself and had one of the best, sharpest polished edges in the knife world. As this one soooooooo has. Full size double action SOCOM with a 4" blade and ATS-34 steel.
I'd say the bead blasted plain edge version is the hardest to get and most sought after. Problem is, because bead blasting isn't the best choice for corrosion resistance, most of these near 20 year old knives have rust spots. This one has not a speck.
While no knife is 100% flawless, I'm going to rate this one as basically mint. I've bought new knives from MT around that time that were in the same condition, which is to say, 99%+ perfect. It's the mintiest 90's bead blasted SOCOM I've personally seen. For an 18+ year old knife, this thing is pristine. And functionally/mechanically perfect as well.
Things to note. Detent is perfect. Action is smooth, blade is freakishly DEAD center. The auto opening is incredible. In the video you'll actually hear me gasp quietly when I hit the button. It was involuntary.
Lockup is about 40%. It's not super "early" like most knives are today, but 20 years ago, many makers, some highly regarded custom makers too, were not fans of the very early lockup. They were perfectly happy with more contact as long as the lock was sound. And this lock is 100% solid, sound, no play/rock whatsoever. It's exactly what it should be. The closeup of the lock is after opening the blade with the very forceful auto action.
The original classic gold box is intact but shows some minor age/rippling. The knife comes with it, and all 3 paper inserts, including the quaint typed letter about how to return a knife.
I think you'll be hard pressed to find a better example.
Pricing it at 565--->510, including 2 day shipping. Ill pay the PayPal fees. If you feel ok about sending it no fee, I'll knock off $15. (495 shipped)
Ill listen to close offers but I think it's priced right.
Thx for looking.
And of course, your satisfaction is guaranteed, if you're not happy with it just send it back.
